10 Hollywood Movies Filming In Montreal Summer 2014

Montreal is a movie town. Tons of projects are filmed here, most of which we barely even notice.

To get you in the know for the upcoming year, here are 10 movies set to be filmed, or already are filming, in Montreal.

Most of the info below came from IMDB (obviously) and the ACTRA Montreal website.

1. The Walk

Director: Robert Zemeckis

Listed as the above title on the ACTRA site, but most probably "To Reach The Clouds" the working title for the Zemeckis-directed film about acrobat Philippe Petitโ€™s walk between the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, hence the elusive production title. Joseph Gordon Levitt was favoured for the role, so get pumped to potentially see JGL in the streets of Montreal

2. Stonewall

Director: Roland Emmerich

From the man who made The Day After Tomorrow comes a period piece based on the days leading up to the Stonewall Riots in NYC at the tale end of the 60s. Adorable Jeremy Irvine is set to play the lead.

3. The 10 O'Clock People

Director: Tom Holland

A thriller with a strong psychedelic/drug-focus, this film is rumored to have the legendary Stephen King attached as a screenwriter, which is exciting for horror fans. Montrealers will also be happy to know hometown hero Jay Baruchel is set to star.

4. The Little Prince

Director: Mark Osborne

Based on the famous French children's book, this animated film features the voice talents of Rachel McAdams, Paul Giamatti, and James effing Franco! Sorry got a little excited. Obviously not a lot of filming is being done, but the production will still occur in Montreal.

5. Pawn Sacrifice

Director: Edward Zwick

Starring one-time Spiderman Tobey Maguire, Pawn Safrifice follows the story of chess champion Bobby Fischer as he gets ready to take on Russian Boris Spassky. Think Rocky IV, but with chess instead of boxing.

6. Brooklyn

Director: John Crowley

Based on the book of the same name, "Brooklyn" follows the story of a young Irish immigrant trying to make in in NYC during the 50s. Filming started in Ireland before moving to Montreal, so it looks like our city will be the stand-in for New York.

7. Turbo Kid

Director: Franรงois Simard

Don't be fooled by the name, this movie won't be made for kids. Expect a ton a of blood and crazy hijinx in this action-comedy which actually started out as a short for Montreal's Fantasia Film Festival

8. Obamas: A story of Love, Faces and Birth Certificate

Director: Moussa Djigo

Not about the American president, this Montreal-centric film is about a father introducing his son to his estranged mother. A crazy night in Montreal ensues during (as it happens) where you'll get to see a homeless Barrack.

9. The Last Druid: Garm Wars

Director: Mamoru Oshii

All sorts of sci-fi tropes are thrown into this movie, all about a post-apocalyptic war-torn world with clones running amok. No huge names attached, but that can be a good thing when it comes to weird movies...or a bad sign entirely.

10. Fight Spirit Pride

Director: Garianno Lorenzo

UFC fans will want to check this one out. A documentary filmed all across Canada, the film focuses on the trials and tribulations of an MMA figher over the course of ten years. Georges St-Pierre makes an appearance, so be excited.
