Remember when someone decided to pull a cruel prank hinting that Chipotle would open soon in Montreal?Of course you do. That day was an emotional roller coaster, and it ended in the worst way possible. If this were a Seinfeld episode, someone would scream, "no Chipotle for you!" And we'd all laugh and laugh. But sadly, this is real life. There was no laughter that day. Only tears.

On the bright side, Montreal is full of delicious, authentic restaurants that will definitely hit the spot whenever you're craving Mexican. But what if you're craving Chipotle? What if you want delicious Tex-Mex instead? What if you want a burrito the size of your fist? Well, friends, guess what. If you're craving the Chipotle experience in Montreal, we've got you covered.

1. Quesada Burritos & Tacos

Various Locations

Giant portions? Check. Fresh ingredients? Check. Build-it-yourself burritos, tacos, and quesadillas? Check, check, check. Friends, what I've just described is not Chipotle, but Montreal's own Quesada Burritos & Tacos. Not only is it pretty much as close to Chipotle as you can get, but it's also really fvcking tasty in its own right. And with locations including Laval, DDO, and Cote-des-Neiges, you're never too far away from satisfying that burrito craving.

2. Burrito Shop

3686 Saint Laurent Boulevard

Did I hear someone say "burrito literally the size of a human face"? Because if so, Burrito Shop might just have what you're looking for. Either way, if you're down for a fresh, tasty burrito that'll definitely hit the spot, you've found the right place. Although their burritos are awesome, Burrito Shop isn't just a one-trick pony. Try their chicken tacos. Thank me later.

3. Ta Chido

5611 Park Avenue

Okay, I know what you're thinking. You're thinking: "Gee, Ta Chido isn't Tex-Mex. How can it possibly fill the Chipotle-sized hole in my stomach?" Well, friend, stay with me on this one. Ta Chido has all the popularity, freshness, and yum factor that you've come to expect from Chipotle (if you've ever actually tried it for real). Except it also offers Mexican food that isn't as widely known - such as tortas - and friendly staff that go out of their way to make sure your experience is top notch. Craving satisfied? Craving satisfied.

4. Mucho Burrito

150 Rue Ste-Catherine O (inside Complexe Desjardins)

A fairly new restaurant opened in Complexe Desjardins, Mucho Burrito has the words 'Mexican Grill' right in its description, much like Chipotle. Also like Chipotle, Mucho Burrito offers standard Mexican food, with special emphasis on the burrito. The cherry on top? According to its website, Much Burrito's burritos can be combined with up to 17 ingredients and 7 fillings. Because honestly, who feels like eating the same thing twice?

5. Tejano BBQ Burrito

511 Rue de Courcelle

So many ingredients, so many choices, so much deliciousness. Tejano's main focus is burritos, and although their 'build your own' style is similar to Chipotle's, their ingredients are slightly different. For example, Tejano offers 'chorizo-spiced pulled pork' as one of their main meats. Putting a unique twist on a classic favourite? That's a win, my friends. That's a win.

6. M4 Burritos

Various Locations

Alright, when I say 'Chipotle in Montreal', what do you think of? M4 Burritos. There's no arguing that M4 offers quality burritos/quesadillas/tacos, more than fair portions, fresh ingredients, and an all-around cool atmosphere. If you're looking for some delicious, straightforward Tex-Mex, look no further.

7. Burritoville

2055 Rue Bishop

Is Chipotle an organic vegetarian Mexican restaurant? No. Do we want our vegetarian friends left out of all the Chipotle-inspired fun? Also no. Luckily, we've found the perfect solution: Burritoville. Although many places offer a vegetarian option, Burritoville is pretty much the only place where everything - burritos, quesadillas, burrito bowls, and even tacos - on the menu is veg. Go ahead, friends. Indulge.

8. Adobo

1455 Rue Peel (inside Les Cours Mont Royal)

Located in the food court of Les Cours Mont Royal, Adobo is a great compromise between fast food and authentic Mexican. They have all the standard Mexican fare, including delicious burritos, quesadillas, and tacos, served quickly by friendly staff. Bonus points for their corn chips, which are probably the most legit chips I've ever tasted.

9. Chipotle & Jalapeño

1481 Rue Amherst

If you want to pull a fast one on your friends and say you went to 'Chipotle', you won't technically be lying. If you want to tell your friends you found an authentic, unique Mexican place, then you'll be telling the truth, too. See how things work out sometimes? Chipotle and Jalapeño is pretty awesome in its own right, serving up unique Mexican food in a modern setting. Pork skin burritos anyone?

10. Jimmy Guaco's

1194 Rue Peel

A pretty popular Tex-Mex restaurant in Ontario, this is Jimmy Guaco's first Montreal location. Much like Chipotle, JG offers standard Mexican fare, such as tacos and burritos, and the chance for you to pick and choose what you want to go in it. Bonus points for their delicious guacamole, which is consistently fresh and flavourful.
