Ya, ya we know. Down town Montreal is where it’s at for wining and dining. No matter where you are there’s something for everyone. That doesn’t mean, however, that greatness does not surround it. Au contraire mes amis! Turns out there are a fair share of restaurants to go off island for and we know exactly where to send you. So if you’re up for a little trip to get away from city life here are a list of 10 restaurants worth exploring.

Who knew the West could provide Southern Soul? If you’re in the mood for some good ol’ fashion Louisiane Creole grub this place is definitely worth checking out. They even serve you an amuse-bouche of fried jambalaya balls. They’ve got some true grit or at least real grits with shrimp. It won’t be the easiest to get to since its way out in Hudson, but it’s a beautiful location and their fusion tapas style restaurant will definitely please your palette. It’s an open kitchen so be prepared to be entertained by Chef Scott as he cooks up a variety of his own dishes before your eyes. Another great feature of Carambola is that it is a BYOW which might make it even more difficult to leave.The ingredients are fresh, the presentation is beautiful and the food is orgasmic! Did we mention they do lobster poutine? We all agree that beef is pretty. Graffiti on the walls gives the joint an urban feel despite being in Laval. It’s a very fun, lively and playful environment. Big drinks accompany big burgers! The only thing they offer other than beef is poutine... with beef. It might be worth your while to do a full day of shopping at the surrounding outlets or to Carrefour next door. Burn some calories before you pack it down. Did anyone say Onion Bhajia? No? How about Tandoori chicken or some butter chicken? Yes, the West can supply you with some good Eastern tradition. They start by serving papadum with red chutney, green chutney and carrot pickle at no charge. This is a local hot spot and great for take out. Go big or go home! From the guys who brought you Epic Meal Time comes Jukebox burgers. Tasty tantalizing, and mouth-watering burgers worth racing after. Size does matter. Look of the restaurant is really shnazzy. Think of that scene in Pulp Fiction where Uma Thurman sports that cool bob and they’re at that retro 50s restaurant. Minus the smoking. The best kept secret in the West Island. Reservations are difficult to make, but well worth waiting to get a table. This BYOW in Ile Bizard has two seatings in a historical dining room (the old Viger House living room) and can sit about 30 people.  Nothing says intimate like oversized armchairs and a fireplace nearby. The young couple who own the restaurant, Sara and Tarik from Calgary, have truly created a charming place to dine. A gem to be found in the oh so quaint Saint Anne de Bellevue. Open since 1976, this restaurant as is charming as it is cozy. The food: absolutely divine. What generally sets the tone is service and from the moment you arrive you’ll feel like family. The nicest part of dining here are all the little details that don’t get done anywhere else. Between each meal you are served with a little palette cleanser: before the entrée a tiny zucchini quiche, between that and the main a sorbet ball, and after dessert chocolate covered grapefruit. Photo cred - It doesn’t look like much on first glance, but you shouldn’t care because the food is great! Plus their terrasse overlooking the water definitely sets a nice mood in the summertime. You can’t go wrong with anything you choose: from their peanut dumplings, to their red curry beef even to their General Tao chicken. The restaurant is situated in an old 19 century house (a Pointe Claire landmark) with a very cozy stone walled interior. They have a wonderful garden terrace in the back to enjoy your meal. This French-Cajun restaurant is a great spot to eat and then perfectly located so be sure to walk around the area. There is comfort food to be found in the South Shore surprisingly enough. The restaurant doesn’t look like much on the outside, but it’s nice and modern on the inside. Beautifully plated and well portioned. This is creative comfort food - to put it succinctly.
