10 Retro Restaurants In Montreal That Will Take You Back In Time

One of the things I love most about Montreal is the dining scene. Not because the food here is awesome - it is - but because we have such a wide variety of restaurants and cuisines to choose from.

We've also got a lot of restaurants with some seriously vintage vibes; and while there are tons of great places with oldschool feels and good food, a select few stand out.

1. Greenspot

3041 Rue Notre-Dame O

The quintessential amazing, oldschool diner, this St-Henri spot is famous for its beyond amazing food. And, with oldschool sineage, jukeboxes on the tables, and a super friendly vibe, Greenspot is one of the most awesome places to cop some vintage vibes, too.

2. La Roulotte

10 Rue Paiement

Located deep in Montreal's West Island, La Roulotte is worth a visit for their beyond tasty poutines. The fact that you'll be instantly transported into nostalgia land the second you step foot into this diner? Well, that's just an added bonus.

3. Nouveau Système

This Beaubien institution serves up delicious burgers, poutines, and other fast food dishes. But one of the coolest things about this spot? Definitely their oldschool vibes, including those classic jukeboxes on the tables.

Alright, be prepared to get blown away by this fact: Montreal Pool Room has been around for over 100 years. Yes, that's a century of steamies, guys. It's hard not to feel that oldschool feel as soon as you step foot into this institution, even if they moved from their original spot across the street.

5. Beautys

93 Avenue du Mont-Royal O

I don't even think I need to tell you how much I love Beautys. Open in the 40s, not much has changed at this Plateau/Mile-End spot since: the food is good, the staff is awesome, and the whole place has the most authentic oldschool vibes around.

6. Jukebox Burgers

11798 Boulevard de Salaberry

Home of the poutine hot dog, the "everything but the kitchen sink" dessert, the chicken waffle burger, and many, many more delicious concoctions, Jukebox also happens to have some of the most vintage vibes out there. Trust, the second you step into Jukebox, you're transformed into the 1950s.

7. Paul Patates

2606 Rue de Coleraine

A popular spot for poutine and other fast-food fare in Montrela's Pointe St-Charles, Paul Patates has been around for years. Their decor is oldschool chique, complete with jukeboxes on the counter. Bonus points for their famous - and delicious - spruce beer, which you should totally try at least once in your life.

8. Le Roi Du Smoked Meat

6705 Rue St-Hubert

Located on the Plaza St-Hubert, Le Roi Du Smoked Meat has been around legit forever. And if you've ever been there, you know exactly why: their smoked meat game is basically untouchable. Taking a step into this spot is like taking a step back in time... but with better food, probably.

9. Chez Tousignant

6956 Rue Drolet

Although Chez Tousignant hasn't been around for quite as long as some other spots on this list, the food they make is high-quality and highkey delicious. Mix that in with a sleek design that's a slightly fresher version of an oldschool casse-croute, and you've got pure magic.

10. Paulo Et Suzanne

5501 Boul Gouin O

This Ahuntsic diner is mainly known for its delicious poutines, and the fact that it's open 24/7. But the vibe here is unbeatable; it looks and feels like a legit diner from the 80s, from the barstools to the Betty Boop decals on the wall.
