10 Signs You're Not Actually Dating

You're just casually hooking up.
10 Signs You're Not Actually Dating

You know that feeling of excitement when you meet someone new that you finally actually like. Priceless, right? Butterflies in your stomach, feeling optimistic about the future and checking your phone every two minutes to see if you got a text message from your new bae... Sounds familiar? Of course it does, we've all been there. Not so fast, though. You might be living in a fantasy land and your new bae might not be as excited about your relationship as you are. So here are 10 signs that will make you realize that you're not actually dating. It's all in your head... Sorry.

1. They take a really long time to text back

When someone is legitimately into you, texting back shouldn't be an issue. If it takes them over three hours to reply to a "Good morning!" text, there's a problem. Sure, they might be busy. But, seriously, it takes two seconds to send a text message. Unless you're dating the prime minister of Canada, they should be able to text you back promptly.

2. You hang out about once a week at most

If you see your crush once a week or less - you're not dating. It's called hooking up. Dating is when two people can't wait to be with each other and actually want to spend time together.

3. They're always busy

No matter how busy someone is, if they like you, they should be able to find time for you. When there's a will, there's a way. If they're rejecting all of your attempts to meet up by saying "Sorry, I'm really busy", you're not dating. If you were dating, it would sound something like, "I'm so busy at work, but I'll find some time to see you."

4. They talk to you about people they've hooked up with

Things like, "I've hooked up with this really hot chick, you might know her" or "I still miss my ex sometimes" are clear indications of your status. They're not dating you.

5. You met them less than a week ago

If you've known them for less than a week, you're definitely not dating, you psycho.

6. Sometimes you don't hear from them for days

That's a major red flag. If they just disappear from your life for days or weeks and then reappear out of nowhere - you're not dating. Chances are, you're their plan B, in case all other baes reject them.

7. They don't introduce you to their friends

If you haven't met their friends, you're not dating. At least not yet. They're obviously not trusting you or not comfortable enough around you to introduce you to their circle of friends.

8. They act very cold in public

No PDA? Not even a little bit? You're not dating. If they're cold as ice with you on public, they obviously want to seem available to other potential baes out there.

9. You never hang out during the day

If you only hang out at night, that's a very good indication that you're not dating. You're just hooking up. When people are dating, they do brunches and day activities.

10. They're married

No matter what they tell you, if they're married, you're definitely not dating. You shouldn't even be hooking up with married people, fyi.
