That's what this special Christmas event held at Pointe-à-Callière Museum hopes to help you answer, as they take you through different incarnations of Santa from around the globe, letting you decide which one you think is the real deal.

Don't waste your time with those amateur carolers on the street, head to the pros at Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel where experienced caroling troupes will serenade your ears with classic Christmas songs this weekend. Best of all, the event is entirely free!

Christmas In Ireland: A Tribute To Leonard Cohen

Pay homage to one of the most creative and famous Montrealer in recent memory, while learning a bit about Irish Christmas traditions with this multifaceted musical concert. To be held at Outremont's Ecole de Musique Vincent D'Indy on December 19th, a portion of the total sales will also go towards the Montreal Children's Hospital.

Puppet Theatre: The Last Polar Bears

Instead of the usual Xmas performances, why not see one that's a little different? Performed entirely by puppets, "The Last Polar Bears" tells the tale of an old man and his dog who embark on a journey to the North Pole to try and find the remaning polar bears in existence. Not only will it be a fun show, there's even a bit of environmental subtext in the mix. The show is free and will be held at the Pointe-Claire Cultural Centre.

McCord Musuem's Toy Exhibit

Everyone loves toys, no matter your age, and the McCord Musuem is chock full of amusing wonders with the "Mister Rabbit's Circus" toy exhibit. About 200 toys and items are on display at the museum's collection, all tied to the children's book series Monsieur Lapin.

The Montreal Craft Festival

Better known as Le Salon des métiers d’art de Montréal, this free event is the largest annual craft show in all of Quebec, with over 325 exhibitors set up at Place Bonaventure showing off their crafty wares. While this technically isn't a Christmas-specific event, you can rest assured their will be plenty of Xmas-y crafts on site, all of which will be artisanally made by true craftsmen (and women) from across the province.

A Railway Christmas

Trains and Christmas aren't the most popular holiday combination (unless you're a huge fan of The Polar Express) but that's exactly what you'll get with the Exporail's special Xmas event. Train cars will be decked out in Xmas decorations with a variety of activities held on-site, including the chance to have a delicious "Christmas Tea" with sweets and eats included.

I've personally never, ever heard about crafting out a Christmas Bell for the holiday season, but apparently it's a thing, and that's why this holiday event hosted by the Musée des maîtres et artisans du Québec earns a place on this list. With everything provided by the museum, the workshop will show you (and anyone you have older than 5 years old) how ot make a seasonal musical centerpiece.

A Victorian Christmas In Montreal

Take a trip back in time to the Victorian era, when everybody was dressed fancy and the food was far stranger, at least compared to today. Held at the Sir George-Étienne Cartier National Historic Site, costumed tour guides will take you through everything that went into a Victorian Christmas, from decorations to dishes, with you getting to try a few sweets too.

Test your wits and your holiday spirit at the same time, only at this very unique Christmas event to be held at the St. Leonard Library. Beat out the competition by completing as many Xmas-puzzles as you can, which will no doubt be harder than it sounds. Note that registration is required.

Around The Fireplace...Holiday Traditions

Forget Christmas trees, it's all about the fireplace, at least at this holiday event held at Château Ramezay, where the historical site's many fireplaces will be decked out with bells, holly, and every other variety of Xmas decoration. There will be a mildly educational aspect as well, as you'll learn different aspects of Christmas traditions at each individual fireside.
