12 Christmas Drink Ideas To Get You Very Merry

Sure, Christmas is all about family time and presents, but boozy treats are a crucial part of all holidays that involve mass amounts of famjamming. We all need 'dat drank to get us through 6+ hours with our extended family. Here's some festive ideas to jazz up your family-time drinking.

1. Candy Cane

  • 3/4 oz. Berry Flavoured Vodka
  • 3/4 oz. peppermint schnapps
  • 3/4 oz. white crème de cacao
  • 1/4 oz. grenadine
  • half and half milk
  • soda water

Pour the vodka, schnapps, crème de cacao and grenadine into a shaker over ice. Shake well and serve in a cocktail glass rimmed with crushed peppermint candy. Fill with half and half, and end with a splash of soda water. A sweet drink with a minty aftertaste.

2. Christmas Jones

  • 4 fresh strawberries
  • 1 1/2 oz. vodka
  • 5 oz. pineapple juice
  • 2 tsp superfine sugar
  • 7-up
  • Mint sprigs to garnish

Blend vodka, strawberries, sugar, pineapple juice together. Pour mix into two highball glasses and top with 7-up and a sprig of mint each. Makes about two drinks, but you're going to want to make 4 or 5.

3. English Christmas Punch

  • 750 ml dark rum
  • 750 ml dry red wine
  • 3 cups strong brewed black tea
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice

Heat ingredients in a saucepans without letting them boil. Stir well to make all the sugar dissolve, then pour the heated mix into a heat-proof punch bowl. Serve warm. Think of this like the English version of mulled wine. This makes about 2 punchbowls' worth.

4. The Grinch

  • 2 oz. Midori
  • 1/2 oz. lemon juice
  • 1 tsp simple syrup
  • marachino cherry for garnish

Shake ingredients with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with cherry. Dr.Seus-ish rhyming may or may not ensure.

5. Mistletoe Martini

  • 2 oz. vodka
  • 2 oz. orange juice
  • 3 oz. chilled cranberry tea
  • 3/4 oz. lemon juice
  • 3 tsp sugar

Shake ingredients with ice, strain into two chilled cocktail glasses.Makes two cocktails. Serve cold, hold over party guests for free kisses.

6. Christmas Cookie

  • 1 oz. peppermint schnapps
  • 1 oz. Kahlua
  • 1 oz. Baileys

Combine ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake well and strain into chilled martini glass. It's the grown up version of the holiday treat, because Bailey knew what he was doing.

7. Tequila Bubbly Mistletoe

  • 1 oz. Tequila
  • 1/2 oz. Triple Sec
  • 1/2 oz. pomegranate juice
  • Prosecco

Pour tequila, triple sec and pom juice into a chilled champagne flute. Fill with Prosecco. Fancy and festive tequila, who knew?

8. Santa Shot

  • 1/3 oz. grenadine
  • 1/3 oz. green creme de menthe
  • 1/3 oz. peppermint schnapps

Pour grenadine to about 1/3 of your shot glass, then layer on the creme de menthe, and finally the schnapps. Leave these for Santa instead of those stupid cookies and milk.

9. The Red Hot Santa Tini

  • 2 oz. chilli infused vodka (or regular vodka if you can't find it)
  • 2 oz. chocolate liqueur
  • cocoa powder
  • cayenne pepper
  • sweetened whipping cream
  • one small chilli pepper

Mix together some cocoa powder and a pinch of cayenne, and rim a martini glass with the mixture. Shake the vodka together with the chocolate liqueuer, and pour into the glass. Top with whipping cream and garnish with the chilli pepper, savour the perfect combination of sweet and spicy.

10. Mocha Nog Punch

  • 10 parts Kahlua Mocha
  • 5 parts Absolut Vanilla
  • 20 parts eggnog

Combine ingredients and serve in a punchbowl with a floating ice block. To up your presentation game, freeze the ice with coffee beans for an added aesthetic effect.

11. Gingerbread Apple Cocktail

  • 2 oz. Domaine de Canton
  • 1 oz. vanilla vodka
  • 2.5 oz. apple cider
  • lemon juice
  • agave syrup
  • spiced graham cracker crumbs
  • orange zest for garnish

Line a chilled martini glass lightly with agave syrup on a dish, followed with spiced graham cracker crumbs. Shake together all the ingredients, and strain into glass. Garnish with orange zest and consume what is very much an alcoholic apple pie, in liquid form.

12. Hot Buttered Rum

  • 1 lb. light brown sugar
  • 1/2 lb. unsalted butter
  • 2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 2 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp. ground allspice
  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 oz. Rum
  • Boiling Water

In a mixing bowl, beat together the butter, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and spices to make batter.

In a preheated mug, combine 2 heated tsp. batter with 1 1/2 oz. rum. Top with boiling water and mix well. That's right, straight up butter and sugar with alcohol. Holiday decadence at its finest.
