12 Montreal Shops Where You Can Buy Sunglasses For Super Cheap

I don't know about you, but when it's sunny out, I cannot function without a good pair of sunglasses. Yes, I love the way they look, and the way they complete any outfit, but without them, I'll squint so much that crossing streets or driving becomes borderline dangerous. With the protective aspect considered, sunglasses are basically the most functional, stylish, and sometimes life-saving accessory you could own.

The good news is, every summer brings new, awesome styles of sunnies for every face shape and wardrobe. And yeah, sometimes you want to splurge and buy a super expensive pair. But if you're like me and either break or lose your sunglasses every summer, the cheaper options tend to work best.

You don't need a ton of money to score the most stylish trends this summer, so here's a peek at what's hot for sunglasses right now, and where exactly you can hunt for your perfect pair.

1. Super dark or reflective lenses

Whether your lenses are so dark that your eyes are shielded completely from up-close, or your lenses reflect whomever happens to be looking, the point is that you're hidden. Do I even need to say it, or were you guys already thinking these would be perfect for when you're hungover? I know, right? Not only will these sunnies offer maximum protection, but they're ideal for those days where you just can't deal with anybody. Hide behind these shades in confidence.

2. Irregularly shaped frames

Eyewear trends everywhere are showing more and more unique designs for their frames, and if you're all about going bold, this style is definitely for you. Within this trend, there are more out-there options such as those pictured above, or more classic looking frames that still make a statement. Either way, you can own it. Vintage stores are a great place to look for these types of sunglasses, since they carry older styles that tend to lead towards irregular shapes and colours.

3. Cat-eye shapes

What I love about this style is that they flatter a lot of face shapes, and they can have a more formal look to them that works well with a classy outfit. They also vary in terms of how dramatic the "cat eye" aspect is; some frames have a slight point at the ends, others are sharper and more pronounced. If you want to get bold, try a thicker frame with a statement colour. Or, to keep it simple, pick a plain shade with more delicate wire frames.

4. "Geometric" frames

Calling a trend 'geometric' feels like we're about to get a refresher on grade 5 math, but I kid you not, this is what the fashionistas call it. These sunglasses range from stark square shapes, to more whimsical, six or eight-sided styles. If you pride yourself on always staying on top of the latest trends, then these sunnies will set you above the rest. You'll want to make sure the frames stand out, but aren't overpowering the sides and top of your glasses.

5. Double-wired sunglasses

This particular style has been around for a few summers now, and it still reigns supreme as one of the most popular types of sunglasses. "Double wired" simply means there is a wire going across the top of the glasses, parallel to the small wire that holds the two lenses together. Simple, but stylish. In terms of where to buy these, they're pretty much a dime a dozen nowadays, which means you can get them cheap at any basic clothing store. I recommend also taking a look at some optometry places, like Lens Crafter's, because surprisingly, they've got great sales on some high-end sunglasses (both prescription and non-prescription).

6. Classic round frames

If there is any style of sunglasses that have reached coveted status, it's the typical round frame. While the oversized look has dominated for quite some time, the smaller, more John Lennon-type frames are also very much back in style. You can find either type at most trendy clothing stores, but vintage boutiques work well in terms of finding unique pairs, especially for the small round frames. These shades make a statement, but they don't necessarily work for every face shape, so be cautious of that when trying on.
