Beer is a drink that’s as versatile as it is enjoyable. Whether you’re looking to get drunk, enjoy some alcohol with dinner, or just relax a little, it’s easy enough to make beer suit your needs. Even better, Montreal is filled with places that have amazing beer selections, making sure that you’ll be able to drink in style. It took a lot of self control (none), but we forced ourselves to go around the city drinking beer, and, after much debate, we settled on our favourite places. Here are Montreal’s best bars for beer.

Dieu du Ciel
Variety is the key at this bar. They carry up to 17 different styles on tap at a time, ensuring that even the most prolific drinkers will have a while before they get bored. Whether you’re into stouts, ales, or something totally different, you’ll definitely find something to satisfy your craving. Most of the brews are under $8 a pint, so the place is pretty affordable, especially for beer of this quality.
Vices et Versa
Those who are into buying local will definitely want to come here. All of their numerous draught options come from Quebec, making for a deliciously authentic experience. If you’re in the mood for something alcoholic, some of their dark beers clock in at a whopping 12% ABV. With all of that booze in your system, you might get hungry, and their pulled pork poutine is sure to fill you up right.
B1 Bar
As you may have gathered by now, we enjoy a normal beer, but we’re also down to try something new. Accordingly, we were excited when we heard tat these guys would be offering frozen beer, and the results didn’t disappoint. In case you’re wondering, yes, a beer slushie is just as delicious as it sounds.

Benelux Brewpub
No matter what your beer preference is, they’ve got what you’re looking for here. They switch up their lineup, but you can be guaranteed that they’ll always have a solid collection of blondes, ales, stouts, and more for you to choose from. Outside of the beer, they offer a tasty artisan hotdog that will certainly fulfill your drunk food desires.
Reservoir
They don’t have a ton of beers here, but they offer a solid range of brews, and everything they serve is great. You can find yourself a hoppsy-as-hell IPA, a smoky Scotch Ale, a light pilsner, or something totally different. They brew beer in-house, so you know that it’s as fresh as can be.
Le Saint Bock
They call their menu here the Bible of Beer, and you’ll see that they don’t exaggerate when you realize how extensive it is. They have hundreds of beers (including hard-to-find European ones), both on tap and in bottles, making for one of the largest beer selections in the province. Their food menu isn’t quite as intimidating, but it’s more than decent, so you don’t have to worry about drinking on an empty stomach.
L’Amére a Boire
This is a great place to come if you’re hungry and thirsty, because their food selection as every bit as impressive as their offering of beers. Their stouts, ales, and lagers all go perfectly with tasty bar foods like pogos and codfish cakes. They’ve also got a small patio, which is perfect for enjoying your food and drink when the weather’s nice.
Broue Pub Brouhaha
If you’re tired of buying beer, or you’ve got an idea for your own creation, you should come here, because they offer beer brewing training for aspiring brewers. However, if you’re looking to buy beer, they won’t disappoint, because they have some delicious house beers on tap, as well as imported bottles. They’ll also keep you filled up, because they’ve got yummy foods like duck wings.

St-Ambroise Terrace, McAuslan Brewery
It’s no surprise that a brewery as prolific as McAuslan would have an awesome pub, but it’s still well worth noting. They have tasty seasonal beers like Pumpkin and Russian Imperial Stouts, as well as yummy must-haves like their cream ale. Even better, you can enjoy them on a gorgeous outdoor terrace.

Brutopia
Given their name, it’s pretty much a given that these guys serve some great beer, but sometimes their brews are so good that they even catch us by surprise. Their Raspberry Blonde was recently given some brewing awards, but it’s just one of a plethora of incredible beers on their menu. They’ve also got lots of fun entertainment most nights of the week, so you’re sure to be well distracted while you drink.
Le Cheval Blanc
Le Cheval Blanc is one of Montreal’s oldest micro-breweries, and they’ve learned a lot over time, building up the chops to create some of the finest beers to be found in the province. A few of their famous beers are even crafted on-site, ensuring that you’ll be getting them as fresh as can be. To top it off, they have fun live music from time to time to help you enjoy your drink.
Les Soeurs Grises
If you find yourself in the Old Port and you’re craving a beer, this is the place you want to go. They have ten cask varieties, including a delicious beer called the “Ninja IPA,” which is every bit as badass as its title suggests. They’ve also got an eclectic menu, with indulgent offerings like boar cubes and rabbit wings.
Le Tréfle
These guys haven’t opened their doors to the general public yet, but we can’t wait for the moment when they do. As we’ve already discussed, Le Tréfle will feature a formidable collection of beers from within the province, around the country, and around the world. If beer’s a little too weak for you, they’ll also have over 60 whiskeys for you to choose from.
