Many people typically associate bars with beer and the strong stuff, but going out for a good glass (or many) of wine can be just as fun, and can even give you a more sophisticated edge. All stereotypes aside, sharing a fancy bottle of vino with friends, or important clients perhaps, in a wine bar makes a nice change from the regular watering holes you may be used to. Wine bars offer a relaxed atmosphere, gourmet nibbles, and are a great opportunity to discover some new or exclusive vintages you might not have ever tried before.

3424 Avenue du Parc

With a selection of more than 350 wines, of which 50 are served by the glass, Pullman ranks consistently among the best of the best wine bars out there. The decor is sophisticated with a slight industrial edge, the tapas-style starters are delicious, and professionally trained sommeliers make choosing the right wine a breeze.

1 Rue Saint Paul Ouest

Modavie's friendly service, intimate environment, and Mediterranean-influenced menu have kept people coming back since 1997. Top that off with some live jazz, its Old Montreal location and you're set for a good night out.

Le Vin Papillon

2519 Rue Notre-Dame Ouest

From the same masters that brought us Joe Beef and Liverpool house, comes Le Vin Papillon. The wine list here is carefully selected, featuring mostly private imports and expect plenty of fresh and seasonal fare.

Les Trois Petits Bouchons

4669 Rue Saint-Denis

Somewhat reminiscent of an actual wine cellar with stone walls in a cavernous subterranean setting, Les Trois Petits Bouchons prides itself on offering %100 natural wines since 2006. Private imports dominate the wine card which means you'll find plenty of uncommon vintages, but don't worry, the friendly and knowledgeable staff will guide you through it.

Buvette Chez Simone

4869 Avenue du Parc

Buvette Chez Simone used to be primarily populated by the trendy Plateau crowd but is now one of the major players in the city. The sunny terrasse fills up fast in the warmer months, but the eclectic decor and their house-made whole roasted chicken will bring you back throughout the year.

Les Cavistes

196 Rue Fleury Ouest

Les Cavistes is a little further out than the other bars on this list, but defintely worth the trek. The bistro-style menu will fill your belly and choose from an extensive wine list featuring only private imports. Les Cavistes is also a wine boutique and workshop if you feel like getting a little learned while you drink.
