This August marks the beginning of the 24th edition of Montreal's Italian week from August 4th-13th, 2017. However, this year Italian week will truly be like no other! With live music, food, contests, art, and events you can expect nothing but a great time.
I mean, who doesn't want to be surrounded by gelato, pasta, and cannolis? PLUS a majority of events are actually free! So, instead of wallowing in sadness because you couldn't book a trip to Italy this summer, enjoy the next best thing at Montreal's Italian Week!
1. Scopa tournament
As last year, Montreal’s Italian Week ups the ante with its fifth Scopa tournament. For Italians and Italian-Canadians, Scopa was and is the card game to play at social gatherings. Teams will be contacted one week prior to the tournament for the schedule.
When: Participants must be available to play on Saturday, August 12, between 2:00PM and 6:00PM, and should they qualify for the next round, on Sunday, August 13 between 2:00PM and 6:00PM. Deadline to register is August 2, 2017.
2. Opera Cavalleria Rusticana
Montreal’s Italian Week is proud to present to you one of the most famous operas of Mascagni, Cavalleria Rusticana. Adapted from the book of the same title written by the Sicilian author Giovanni Verga, this one-act lyrical drama depicts with passion the love and ultimately tragic tribulations of young Sicilian villagers of the nineteenth century.

3. Moda Sotto le Stelle Fashion show
On this unique night of August, festival-goers eager to enjoy Montreal’s Italian Week will be introduced to Italian fashion. For a few hours, the designers will come together to present a vibrant and colorful fashion show. Under the stars, style and elegance will merge with urban chic, sexy, and glamour styles through these new stunning collections!

4. Marco Calliari - solo
An intimate and introspective rendez-vous with Marco Calliari, where one discovers his powerful voice interpreting sweet melodies taken from his most recent album, One Night. Singing with passion and emotions, whether it is a Neapolitan classic, his own compositions or beautiful Québécois songs translated to Italian, the artist softly reveals his tender and nuanced side.

5. Literary Events
Montreal’s Italian Week is proud to announce the seventh edition of the literary program. Members of the association will be on site, at the heart of Little Italy, to present their works and discuss with all, whether you speak French, English or Italian.

6. Italian Film Festival - Sicily
For the sixth consecutive year in a row, and to the delight of all, classic Italian films related to Sicily (the chosen will be screened throughout the entire festival. The films will be shown at the Leonardo da Vinci Center, the Casa d’Italia and the McCord Museum. They will be screened in Italian with subtitles. It is an attraction that will appeal to all movie, art, and history lovers! Access to all movie screenings are FREE.
7. 60th anniversary - FIAT Conference
The best “Made in Italy” car, symbol of the simple and classy lifestyle. The chronicles of the first meeting in Garlenda (Savona) on July 15th, 1984, counts thirty cars present: after much preparation, the results appeared disappointing and the club was close to giving up on this overly ambitious project.

8. Frederick II : Empire, Culture and Poetry in Sicily
This presentation focuses on Sicily during the Middle Ages, and in particular on the cultural life of Emperor Frederick II's court. By means of an itinerary of texts, images and music, the presentation will try to underline the multicultural character of Frederick's court, which gathered chancellors, lawyers, poets and painters of Arabic, Sicilian, Latin and Provencal descent in a political project addressed to the entire Mediterranean world. Moreover, the presentation wil examine some of the Emperor's distinctive past-times, such as love, poetry in the style of the troubadours, hunting and falconry.

9. Art Competition For Young Artists
This annual art contest is a unique experience for 4 to 12 year olds! The objective is simple: grab a brush, let the creativity flow and represent the festival’s featured region. The contest is divided into three categories: 4-6 years old, 7-9 years old and 10-12 years old. A winner for each category will be announced and amongst the finalist a grand prize winner will be chosen.

10. Fiat 500 car exposition
If you love classic cars then you are most likely aware that the Fiat 500 has been a part of Italian culture for decades and that it has recently resurfaced in the market. The older versions are currently harder and more impossible to find. However, at Montreal’s Italian Week, the impossible becomes possible! We are pleased to be able to showcase these classic cars alongside their newer generations as part of our festivities.
11. Art Exhibits
Italian art is indeed at your door. This year the festival will be hosting expositions featuring Italian artists. Come discover their works!
12. Bocce Tournament
Bocce tournaments will be taking place all over the city throughout the festival. Everyone is invited to participate in this popular Italian game. Show your bocce spirit by watching or joining the fun! Please register with the borough's bocce club as soon as possible.
13. Best Cannoli Contest
Some of Montreal’s Italian bakeries will try to impress our judges to determine who makes the best cannoli in town. This traditional Sicilian pastry will have your mouth watering for a taste!

14. BeaverTails® Pastry Eating Contest
For the second time, in collaboration with BeaverTails, you will be able to participate in Montreal’s Italian Week’s eating contest! Highlighting the beauty of the mixed Italian-Canadian culture, participants will have to eat a chocolate hazelnut BeaverTails pastry as quickly as they possibly can. Join us for this tasty eating contest that will surely make you laugh!
