- For the Journée d'Hiver, Sépaq is eliminating entrance fees for 14 Quebec national parks.
- Free activities and gifts also await visitors.
For the fourth year in a row, the Société des établissements de plein air du Québec (Sépaq) is eliminating entrance fees for over a dozen Quebec national parks for the Journée d'Hiver. In total, 14 "national parks, Camp Mercier, the Station touristique Duchesnay, and the Centre touristique du Lac-Simon will open their doors free of charge to the public [...] to warm up even the most cold-blooded." The news is sure to brighten the spirits of Montrealers who, despite a plethora of things to do in the winter, can feel trapped in their icy urban hellscape in the dreary period between the holidays and the first thaw of spring.
Sépaq will also offer a handful of free activities at these parks, which represent about half the total number in its network.
In addition to "one-day free access to national parks, daily ski ticket at Sépaq's seven cross-country ski centres, access to snowshoe trails, and equipment rental for a trial period" will be free for visitors.
The first to arrive at any of the participating parks and centres may also claim a gift from the society.
"Those who visit a national park will receive an adult pass for a subsequent visit to a national park, while those who visit Duchesnay or Camp Mercier will receive a daily cross-country ski ticket valid at one of the seven cross-country ski centres in the Sépaq network."
"At the Lac-Simon Tourist Centre," meanwhile, "you will be given a pass for a subsequent visit to the site."
Quantities of each gift are limited, however.
Sépaq has yet to divulge which national parks, exactly, will be free to visit for the Journée d'Hiver, Saturday, January 25.
The society also promises a more detailed program of activities in the weeks to come.
The Journée d'Hiver is just one of the annual events for which Sépaq offers free access to its parks.
For Quebec National Parks Day, Sépaq eliminates entrance fees across almost the entirety of its network.
The 2020 program for National Parks Day isn't out yet, but stay tuned to the society website here for forthcoming information.
