20 Hilarious Reactions To Netflix's New "Trashy" Thriller 'You' That Prove Just How Ridiculous It Is

Netflix has recently released a new original show that is equal parts indie romance and social media-fueled psychological thriller.
While I personally could not get over the absolute unbelievability of the show, it has managed to garner an 89% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

TL;DR The new Netflix Original 'You' is the definition of trashy thriller and people's reactions on Twitter are absolutely hilarious...
The show focuses on Joe, a seemingly normal bookstore manager. He begins narration of the show when he lays eyes on Beck for the first time.
While he comes across as a regular dude at first, we quickly learn that is not at all the case.
Joe: everything I did, I did it for you

Joe: locks up the love of his life in a cage
Joe: killed 2 people because of jealousy

A series of events make it clear that Joe will stop at nothing to be a part of Beck's life, even if his actions are easily categorized as stalking and theft.
And those are just the petty crimes...

Beck: “hey, you! what are you up to right now?” 😊😊😊

Before long, it becomes evident that Joe is a complete psychopath murderer and he is morbidly fascinated with Beck to the point of criminality.
He also can't help but become jealous of everyone else in Beck's life, especially her uber-hot and ultra-cool friend, Peach Salinger. (Yes, she is related to J.D. Salinger... this is New York after all.)

One of the reasons I say this show is so unbelievable is because Joe gets away with everything, and has nearly no hiccups along the way.
Which would imply that he's some kind of criminal mastermind when he really comes across as a deluded and un-self-aware creep with impulse issues.

Joe: Beck you have a stalker. pic.twitter.com/GOH7ZoiZmK
That's why so many of these Twitter reactions are about his line, "Beck, you have a stalker."
Because he's not talking about himself!!! He's talking about one of Beck's friends who happens to have a lot of photos of Beck on her laptop...
Joe: Beck, you’ve got a stalker.

The other frustratingly ridiculous part of the show is Beck's absolute obliviousness to everyone and everything around her...
How you going to live at street-level without curtains?! It's 2019...
Beck in the morning acting like the whole of NY can't see her #youpic.twitter.com/w8vqoYFcCI
Literally hated Beck from the jump. You can buy avocado toast and designer scarves, but no curtains? Good luck hun! pic.twitter.com/phGTwTpzx5
Many other viewers obviously picked up on this.
On top of the fact that she doesn't seem to be very... selective... in her dating process.
Just a little advice to beck 😊 ep9 #YOUpic.twitter.com/zSsTxLigkn
please there are actually people who ship joe & beck from you,,,, what yall smokin? pic.twitter.com/IUTHkfe1XR
I have to give it to Penn Badgley, though, because he does a fantastic job of toeing the line between terrifyingly creepy and charmingly sweet.
He has all the Dan Humphrey charm, while still maintaining that undercurrent of, "Oh my god girl, run!"

Joe: Beck, you're too drunk to be alone. What if some sicko had followed you down here? pic.twitter.com/LGIoZkJniF
That said, he spends most of his energy going after those people who Beck cares about... or who say they care about her.
Though, often that's not enough for our dear Joe who insists everyone in her life is trash, except him, of course.

It actually almost seems like he has multiple personalities, or otherwise completely mastery of switching from one person to another.
His other relationships show how caring and considerate he is... which is why it's so bizarre and uncomfortable when he traps and kills people.
okay so episode one of You....i know joe’s a stalker killer sociopath but he’s like so nice to paco and beck???? pic.twitter.com/Sp3ziZXIgT

The show does a good job of following a relatively predictable trajectory while still providing really shocking moments.
Even when you know he's going to kill someone, it's still always surprising how and when he goes about it.

This twist at the end really didn't surprise me fully, because we all knew about Candace from the beginning and if you believed for a second that chick was in Italy, I'm sorry, but you're a fool.
I am excited to see where they go in Season 2, though. Will we just continue to see this pattern Joe has, or will things start to catch up to him?
I'm curious how many other cellphones he has stashed away...
