20 Montreal Must-See Shows In June 2014

Another month brings a new slew of shows to check out in Montreal, and with Die Antwoord, La Roux, and Motel Raphael all set to take to the stage, June is gonna be a good month for music. Read on and find out about the shows you shouldn't miss this June.

1. La Roux
Date: June 2nd
Venue: Metropolis
Genre: Synthpop
Why you're going: La Roux found a lot of success almost immediately upon starting her career with singles like "In for the Kill' and 'Bulletproof'. After a few years on hiatus, La Roux is back with a brand new record, killer new tracks, and what will undoubtedly be a really fantastic live show.
2. Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings
Date: June 4th
Venue: Virgin Mobile Corona Theatre
Genre: Funk/Soul/R&B
Why you're going: The band's goal is to recapture the eclectic funk/soul sound of the mid 60's to the mid 70's. After almost 20 years together, their set is one you just don't want to miss!
3. Die Antwoord
Date: June 6th
Venue: Metropolis
Genre: Alternative/Hip-Hop/Rave
Why you're going: Best way to sum up what your night at a Die Antwoord concert is going to look like? A really, really big rave/party. Good thing this show is on a Friday night!
4. The Kills
Date: June 6th
Venue: Olympia de Montreal
Genre: Indie Rock/Garage Rock/Punk
Why you're going: With no recent album releases, The Kills are set to be playing their show in Montreal with the hits off their four studio albums; Keep On Your Mean Side, No Wow, Midnight Boom, and Blood Pressures. Their fans will enjoy a night of the bands' greatest hits, and if you're a fan of The White Stripes, Patti Smith, or even LCD Soundsystem, this might be a great reason for you to discover some new music!
5. Phoenix
Date: June 8th
Venue: Metropolis
Genre: Alternative Rock/Synthpop
Why you're going: The French Alt/Rock band has a lot of celebrities that have named them as a musical favorite. Their distinct sound and talent have made them really stand out in the industry since they got started 15 years ago.
6. Zedd
Date: June 6th
Venue: New City Gas
Genre: Electro/House
Why You're Going: The 25 year old German producer is best known for his work on the track 'Clarity', and has since played around with many other genres like dubstep, progressive house, and classical. It's going to be a packed night at NCG!
7. Roger Sanchez
Date: June 7th
Venue: New City Gas (sur la Terrasse!)
Genre: House/Electronic Dance/Tribal House
Why you're going: The Grammy Award winning DJ has a ton of hits with his own music, and also with the remixes of songs he's done by big names including Kylie Minogue, No Doubt, Daft Punk, and Maroon 5. Wonder what he'll play for Montreal...
8. Krewella
Date: June 7th
Venue: New City Gas
Genre: EDM/Electro/Progressive House (etc)
Why you're going: Krewella has played Montreal several times before, and concert-goers always come out of the show raving about how great the set was. They're not only known for mixing many different genres; they know how to get you dancing!
9. William Fitzsimmons
Date: June 12th
Venue: Cafe Campus
Genre: Indie/Folk
Why you're going: The very talented singer-songwriter always puts on an absolutely stellar show when he's in town. And really, there's a reason his music has been featured on hit TV shows like Grey's Anatomy and One Tree Hill. It's fantastic.
10. Motel Raphael
Date: June 13th
Venue: la Vitrola
Genre: Indie/Pop/Folk
Why you're going: These very talented ladies from Montreal are gearing up to release their debut album 'Cable TV', which was created after raising funds via IndieGogo. The campaign went well beyond it's 5K goal, showing just how invested their fans already are in seeing them succeed. This is going to be a very exciting show in the city!
11. Cedric Gervais
Date: June 14th
Venue: New City Gas
Genre: House
Why you're going: Another Grammy Award winning DJ coming to Montreal... In the same month?! Seriously, NCG is bringing some fantastic acts you shouldn't miss.
12. The Jezabels
Date: June 15th
Venue: Le Belmont
Genre: Indie/Alternative/Rock
Why you're going: The Jezabels became successful immediately after the release of their debut album, and recently released their sophomore record (in January). The four-piece band always put on a great, upbeat show, and this one will definitely include tons of new music for fans to enjoy.
13. Lindsey Stirling
Date: June 16th
Venue: Metropolis
Genre: Classical/Electronic (etc)
Why you're going: Lindsey Stirling is a YouTube SENSATION that you will absolutely, most definitely, not want to miss in concert. She has performed with Pentatonix, and in 2012 her song 'Crystallize' was the 8th most watched video on YouTube. She's also a professional violinist, and was on America's Got Talent in 2010. Sounds like a lot will be happening at Metropolis on June 16th!
13. A Great Big World
Date: June 17th
Venue: Virgin Mobile Corona Theatre
Genre: Piano Pop/Indie Pop
Why you're going: You might remember this pop duo for their hit song 'Say Something', but they have a ton of other absolutely fantastic tracks, and they are known to put on a killer live show.
14. Stromae
Date: June 17th
Venue: Bell Center
Genre: House/New Beat/Electronic
Why you're going: The Belgian singer-songwriter has some great hits that are a must-see live. Between 'Alors on Danse' and 'Papaoutai', it's really no wonder he became a success internationally!
15. Tyler Ward
Date: June 19th
Venue: Le National
Genre: Acoustic Rock
Why you're going: Did you say acoustic... Rock? Swoon! Tyler Ward has opened for the likes of The Fray, Boyce Avenue, and The Jonas Brothers. His charm and talent have not only gotten him on notable tours, but a couple nods from Billboard, as well as a major label. There are definitely big things ahead for this musician!

16. Chic Gamine + Lakes of Canada
Date: June 19th
Venue: Divan Orange
Genre: Soul/Pop/Indie Pop
Why you're going: Both these Montreal acts are performing as part of the city's Fringe Festival, which brings together the greatest talent MTL has to offer. Between the Soul Pop sound of Chic Gamine and the upbeat, indie pop Lakes of Canada, you're in for an awesome night.
17. Hey Ocean + Highs + Rosie June
Date: June 20th
Venue: Divan Orange
Genre: Classic Pop/Indie
Why you're going: Another standout show at Montreal's Fringe Festival, these three Canadian acts are almost unbelievable to think of all together. The energy and creative sound that they each bring to the table are going to keep Divan Orange up and dancing for sure. If you're looking for some good new music, definitely check these guys out!
18. Geographer + Diamond Bones
Date: June 23rd
Venue: Divan Orange
Genre: Indie Rock/Synth Pop/Dream Pop
Why you're going: Diamond Bones are an up & coming act from Montreal with an album due out later this year, and Geographer are a great headlining act from San Francisco with a great Indie Rock vibe fit for our city, and of course, for Divan Orange.
19. Beck
Date: June 25th
Venue: Place Des Arts
Genre: Alternative Rock
Why you're going: Beck has practically become a household name since he first became famous in the 90's, and has remained at the top of his game all these years by continuing to remain creative and innovative in his music. Also? Place Des Arts is one of the greatest places to experience music in Montreal!
20. White Lung
Date: June 27th
Venue: Divan Orange
Genre: Punk Rock
Why you're going: This Canadian band wasn't named Exclaim's best punk album of the year in 2010 for no reason; they have really nailed exactly what it means to create music in this genre, and will be performing all their greatest songs in the comfort of the cozy Divan Orange on St.Laurent.
