22 Best Montreal Poutine Restaurants You Need To Eat At If You Haven’t Already

Okay, guys, at this stage in the game, I think you all pretty much know that in Montreal, poutine is life. It's so popular that it's pretty much impossible not to find a restaurant that serves up this infamous Quebec dish, just like it's also impossible to eat a bad poutine. Think about it, friends. What's not to love? Cheese? Good. Gravy? Good. Fries? Good!

While that's true, there also happen to be a select few restaurants in Montreal that stand out for their highkey beyond amazing poutines. Having a bit of trouble locating them? No worries, guys. That's what I'm here for. Oh, and keep in mind that this list is simply a list, and not a ranking. Don't get distracted by the numbers. Just know all the spots here are equally delicious.

1874 Rue Sainte-Catherine E

Not going to like to you guys, I'm a little bit too obsessed with the poutine here - especially the regular poutine. Although it's true that the fries are incredibly fresh, and fried up golden and crispy, and the perfectly squeaky cheese is spread in such abundance that it'll satisfy everyone's crave, what really makes the dish? Their poutine sauce. It's got an indescribably unique flavour, and it's slathered on thick, so that every single bite is coated with this pure, concentrated magic.

Lovers of Portuguese food, no longer do you have to pick between the Portuguese chicken or chouriço poutine. Ma Poule Mouille's version of everyone's favourite dish features both their moist, tender chicken, and chunks of their smoky, spicy chouriço - whipped all together with incredibly crispy fries, squeaky cheese, and pretty much the most thick and savoury gravy you've ever tried in your life. Sounds amazing? Well, friend, that's because it is.

3. Shawarmaz

Although this Downtown Montreal spot is famous for its shawarmas, Shawarmaz happens to whip up one beyond amazing poutine. Their "Manic" poutines are a fusion between the classic poutine dish and Lebanese-inspired ingredients; and the combination of poutine sauce, chicken, beef, cheese, coriander, garlic potatoes, pita chips, and more, makes for one overly delicious dish.

Oh, Decarie Hot Dog. I honestly don't even know where to begin with this spot. It's been the reigning king of steamies in the hearts of Montrealers for decades, and if you've ever been here, then you know exactly why - their food is actually mouthwatering, guys, no joke. But let's put aside their super famous hot dogs for a while, and focus on their poutines - because this classic dish, featuring thick-cut fries, savoury, hearty gravy, and fresh squeaky cheese - will be on your mind forever after just one bite. Trust, guys. It's that good.

My love for this Ahuntsic/Montreal-North hot dog spot is well-documented, and well-deserved. If you've never treated yourself to one of these juicy steamies, then I feel sorry for you. Well, I'm actually a little livid. Get yourself here, friend, and prepare to have your whole outlook on life changed, by one, beyond amazing poutine.

TBH, I've never tasted anything quite like the poutines at Dirty Dogs. Their poutine sauce has an incredibly unique, nuanced flavour; you've just got to experience it for yourself. And, honestly, I can say the same about their actual poutines, as well. They've got a solid selection of incredibly amazing poutine dishes, including the uber-popular Bacon Mac 'n Cheese Poutine - one of their signature, tasty poutines, topped with mac 'n cheese smothered in their homemade cheese sauce, sprinkled with green onions, and finished with thick cut chunks of bacon.
