Starbucks is the best thing ever. Let's just start with that. Unfortunately, it can be a little bit pricey at times. And it's unfair! We've all become accustomed to their delicious, boogie-looking drinks. I know people who swear they just can't do Tim Hortons.
Well, there's no need to get down in the dumps about their prices because there are actually tons of ways that you can save money at Starbucks. I love looking into big companies and finding out the hacks that will help me (and you guys) save big bucks.
There's really no reason to pay full price anywhere. If you can save money, then there's no reason not to take advantage of it. There are honestly endless ways to save at Starbucks, but here are 7 of the best hacks that you probably didn't even know about:
1. Get a free drink on your birthday
If you sign up for the Starbucks reward program (registration is completely free by the way), then you get a free drink during your birthday month! Once you've signed up, you have 30 days after your birthday to pick up your prize. I love that you don't have to go on the actual day of your birthday. If not you'd spend the whole day running around just trying to cash in on all the deals.
2. Take advantage of free refills
Did you know that you don't actually have to pay twice when you want a refill? By becoming a member, you get access to all kinds of awesome deals. This is probably the best one. If you use a registered Starbucks card or the Mobile app to buy a handcrafted beverage then you can get free refills of brewed coffee (hot, Iced Coffee, or Cold Brew) or tea (hot, or iced) no matter what your original drink was.All you have to do is present the card or your account on the app.
3. Get creative with your drinks
If you know how to order properly then you can actually get a cheaper version of your favorite drinks. For one thing, there are already tons of options that cost less than $4, like iced coffee. And if you want a latte, just get the caffe misto. It's made of half coffee and half milk and has fewer calories and costs less than a normal latte. You just need to do a bit of investigating into your favorite drinks.
4. Seriously, get a Starbucks card
There is absolutely no reason why you shouldn't have a Starbucks card if you go there often. They're free! You'll get tons of freebies and exclusive offers. Honestly, it makes you feel special too. And the more you use it, the more offers and prizes you can claim. At the "Welcome level," you get free drink or food on your birthday. At the "Green level", you get free refills in store. And at the "Gold level," you get a free drink or food after every 12 purchases. You're welcome.
5. Bring your own cup
If you know you're going to be sitting around in Starbucks for hours doing homework (which let's face it, you probably are) then you're better off just bringing your own cup. You'll actually save 10 cents on the price of your drink. Also, you'll reduce waste. They even offer Starbucks cups that you can buy at most locations and use to get this discount. It can really add up!
6. Fill in the milk yourself
It's crazy how much extra you actually pay for them to fill your drink up with milk. And when you think about it, that doesn't make any sense. They have jugs of milk at the condiment area! So just fill it up yourself. If you want an iced latte, then just order a triple espresso over ice and ask them to put it in a Venti cup. Then just go pour in the milk yourself. Bam! Hacked.
7. Get a bigger size, not an extra shot
If you're someone who needs an extra kick in their drink, then you are far better off just getting a bigger drink. In some cases, it will actually cost you more to get a shot then it would to upgrade to a large size. And the caffeine level is the same (obviously it depends). But if you're someone who consistently orders that extra shot every day, you should definitely look into this. The money you'll save is nuts.
