There is no better activity than jogging, friends. Not only is it a rush unlike anything else, but it's also free, and you can do it whenever and wherever you want, pretty much.
Of course, it helps when you're jogging to some sort of majestic and beautiful scenery. And, luckily for us, Montreal is chalk full of both gorgeous settings, and spots to get your jog on - and when you combine the two, you get a running experience like you've never had before.
1. Parc Maisonneuve
Every runner's dream, Montreal's Maisonneuve Park offers a vast expanse of greenspace, beautiful views, and a huge, uninterrupted running trail.
All of this makes it a perfect spot for an early-morning jog, and more than worth the travel time for those of us who don't live in the East End. Also, major bonus points for being located right near the Montreal Botanical Garden, so you can make a whole day out of it. You know, get your jog on in the morning, stroll through the gorgeous Botanical Garden in the afternoon, and exude good vibes for the rest of the day.
2. The Old Port
Montreal's Old Port isn't just a hub of activity, events, bars, restaurants, and things to do - it's also an ace spot to take an awesome run. Honestly, you've gotta jog here.
You can pretty much jog throughout the Old Port, and absorb the essence of Montreal's oldschool, European vibe. But, if you want a legit trajectory, I recommend staying around de La Commune, for maximum good vibes and beautiful views.
3. Lachine Canal
The Lachine Canal is bae. Not only is it a National Historic Site, the home to many awesome events, and straight-up beautiful to look at, but it also offers a super long, super gorgeous jogging trail.
This path spans for about 15 kms, and if you're down to do the whole thing, you'll end up not only viewing the gorgeous canal in all its glory, but also Atwater Market, René Lévesque Park, the Saint Lawrence River, and much, much more. Protip, though? You might get a little bit hungry/thirsty during your journey, so bring a little bit of cash so you can refuel at the Market.
4. Westmount Summit
Ever feel like rewarding your jog with one seriously awesome view? Then you've found your next running spot.
It's true that Westmount Summit is a super popular spot to get your jog on - and, friends, in this case, you should totally believe the hype. The top of the mountain offers a beautiful panoramic view of the city, and if you know exactly when to go, it tends to be pretty much empty; so not only do you get one awesome jog, but you get to do it in relative solitude, too.
5. Parc La Fontaine
This is legit one of the most gorgeous spots in Montreal, bar none. Not only is Parc La Fontaine full of gorgeous greenspace, but there's a huge fountain (lake?) right in the middle of the park.
Surrounding the fountain is - you guessed it - a trail that's perfect for jogging on, meaning that you can keep up your fitness levels in one of Montreal's most magical spots. Of course, if you're into a more urban kind of run, then no worries. You can always live your jogger life just outside of the park, through Montreal's Plateau.
6. Île De La Visitation
Located in Sault-au-Récollet (representing forever), this gorgeous nature park offers much more than just scenic jogging paths. It's an experience, friends, and one that you've absolutely got to enjoy at least once during your time in Montreal.
First of all, there are a variety of different trails for you to take. Some of them cut straight through the park's more wooded areas; some of them snake around the Rivière des Prairies, so if you're a waterside kind of jogger, then this is your spot; some trails even lead through the park's rapids, as well, making for one super unique and awesome run.
7. Mont-Royal Park
Possibly the quintessential place to jog through in Montreal, the mountain offers tons of different terrain for you to enjoy.
For example, you could take a run around Beaver Lake, and enjoy a relatively smooth path while overlooking the water; you could follow some of the more difficult, woodland paths; honestly, the options here are pretty much endless, and suited for tons of different fitness levels. So, lace up those Nikes, grab a group of friends, and prepare to get your jog on.
8. Parc De L'Honorable-George-O'Reilly
Straight-up, Verdun is one of my fave boroughs. There's literally always something to do, whether there's an event going down, a chill restaurant to check out, or a gorgeous path to jog.
One of the nicest places to get your jog on, though, is hands down Verdun's Parc De L'Honorable-George-O'Reilly. The path is located right near the water, so you can get some pretty gorgeous river views as you're lapping through the park. If waterside views aren't your thing, though, then no worries: some of the path also cuts through the park, so you've got some gorgeous park scenery in there, too.
