Igloofest just announced their official lineup for the 2016 edition of the winter festival every single Montrealer is waiting for. In an effort to represent our Montreal Djs, MTL Blog decided to do a quick listing of the local Djs you need to see this year.
From Lunice to Ryan Playground, first timers to Igloofest experienced artists, we are here to make sure you go the right date and the right time for your ears' proper pleasures:
Photo cred - Ryan Playground
Ryan Playground is signed to local creative agency Saintwoods. She's been in and around the local scene for some time, recognized as a top DJ, producer and singer, Ryan Playground will have you dancing all night long to her beautiful mixes.
Black Tiger Sex Machine just got back from a Europe tour and are ready to take over North America for their 2016 BTSM Church Tour. With their extremely original tiger formed masks, the electro based trio is back for an Igloofest performance not to miss.
Shaydakiss is not just making noise here at her hometown, but is also solidifying her presence nation-wide in Toronto, Ottawa, Quebec City and Vancouver. Topping that, she's played the hottest spots in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago and Miami alongside artists like Diplo, A-Trak, Chromeo, Skrillex, & more.
Now, Bambii is actually located right now in Toronto but for what's it worth, it will be her first Igloofest showcase and she is absolutely amazing. She opened for Machine Drum, Falcons, Mykki Blanco, LE1F and recently collaborated with Full Crate. She enjoys playing House, RNB, Jersey & Global Sounds. Bambii will also be dropping an EP in 2016!
You'll want to add these to your list for that weekend.
While the world (and probably most of you) are high-key obsessed with 'catching them all', a little event called The Osheaga Music and Arts Festival is quickly approaching, bringing pretty much the very best in music today to our neck of the woods.
With any luck, you got your wristbands months ago like the rest of us, and have already mapped out your exact listening schedules.
But for those of you looking for something more low-key (read: less expensive), or simply want an extra helping of awesomeness to go on top of all the festival madness, we just got word there are 2 secret concerts happening just down the street at the Casino de Montréal...oh and they are completely FREE!
Riding high with the Peer Pressure crew (think A-Rock, Hatchmatik) for the last few years, and having shared the stage with the likes of Chromeo, Azealia Banks, and Diplo (just to name a few) in the past, Shaydakiss knows exactly how to bring the funk and light it up with the best of them.
Show starts @ 9pm.
On July 29, the dancing just don't stop, as the Casino de Montréal hosts an official after-party featuring Canadian electro-poppers Dragonette. Topping charts since 2009, if you weren't able to catch the former Juno winners earlier in the day at the festival, this is your chance to see them way more up close and personal at the Valet de Carreau bar for a wild and colourful show you won't want to miss. The perfect way to cap off Day 1.
Show starts @11:30pm.
With multiple restaurants, bars, lounges, and games to suit all tastes, all surrounded by absolutely stunning decor and architecture, the Casino de Montréal is one of the biggest in the world, offering a little something for everyone. It also doesn't hurt that there's completely free parking, which means no fighting with construction cones, and more importantly, no expensive tickets!
Check out Casino de Montréal's website and Facebook Page for all the details on the official Osheaga parties happening.
Montreal's music scene is growing exponentially. We have seen, in the last years, many artists such as Kaytranada pierce the industry on a international level.
Our city is quickly becoming a prolific dot on the industry's map, it is extremely interesting to see which producer is having an influence outside of our walls and how talented they are.
Young montrealer who enjoys staying under the radar, Kiddbuu has quite the prolific Soundcloud. With only a few tracks released and already thousands of fans, Montreal must expect much from the cloud producer and experienced rapper.
Signed by Fools Gold Records in 2013-2014, the artist just released an EP called Kronostatis which was defintely worth the wait. With his crew, High Klassified promotes his home town Laval through projects with, for example, the boutique Off The Hook.
At this point we're really hoping you know who Kaytra is. The young producer from St-Hubert has gone famous with his tasty remixes. With over 200 000 fans, Kaytranada makes the grand region of Montrreal quite proud.
Planet Giza is a collective of producers currently killing it. The collective is formed by three producers, Tony Stone, Rami B & Dumix. With a little touch of funk in their wonderful beats, you definitely need to take a listen.
Under the creative agency Saintwoods, WYLN's latest appearance in the digital production world, "coughing hurts" , was a track produced in collaboration with Jamvvis, young Montreal producer mentionned above. The track is such a great example of amazing talents coming together to create beautiful music in Montreal.
One of Montreal's most popular producer, Lunice has been everywhere for the past year. Closing on 100 000 followers on Soundcloud, the young producer is known for his extremely intense live performances.
Montreal has been feeling the first wave of heat this week and Montrealers are ready for some partying! And it's just your luck, this weekend, there's a huge choice of event happening around the city, like the MAC transforming it's space to welcome partygoers and Tommy Kruise lighting up the scene at Le Belmont to celebrate CODA's departure from the venue.
