The Great Canadian Trail is almost completely connected which means Canada will soon have the longest network of recreational trails in the entire world.

To celebrate the fact that the trail is now 90% connected, we decide to bring you 9 facts about the Great Canadian Trail you probably didn't know about.

1. It Would Take You 2 Whole Years To Cross The Trail

It makes you realize how massive Canada actually is. But even if you traveled 30 km per day, it would you take 2 years, two months and one week to walk it from end-to-end.

2. The Longest Waterway Of The Great Trail  Is 1,659.5 km

Some of trail is actually made up of water routes, and the longest one is none other than Mackenzie River, the longest river in Canada.

3. It Has One Of The Longest Suspension Bridges In North America

Construction has recently been completed on what is know as the Columbia River Skywalk. It is a 305 meter long bridge, suspended between two 100-foot towers.

4. The Highest Elevation Point Is 2,185 m High

The trail isn't exactly a straight path, it crosses through rivers, lakes and even mountains. The highest point you'll reach is in Alberta where you can climb up to 2,185 meters.

5. The Longest Section Is In Ontario

That's right, Ontario will actually be home to the longest part of the trail. It will be over 5,200 km long which is more than Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, PEI and Newfoundland & Labrador combined!
