I hate to be negative but Montreal is utterly lifeless in the winter. It's just too frikken cold. Nothing exciting really happens, especially after Christmas and New Years.

When summer rolls around, though, this city quite literally blossoms. Within a few weeks, the city transforms from introverted and shy to outgoing, daring, and buzzing with energy.
Considering the seasonal nature of our city, there are tons of restaurants, bars, terraces that only do business during the warmer months. And when the crisp fall air rolls around, they will all shut back down. So - now is your time! Take advantage and visit all these awesome temporary spots while you can.
9. Check out Muvbox Montreal for delicious summery seafood in the Old Port
@muvboxmontrealWhy you should go: If lobster rolls and seafood treats of all kind wasn't enough to convince you, this pop-up summer resto is located on the beautiful streets of the Old Port, making it a great spot to bring a special date or friends from out of town.
8. Visit the brand new terrasse perched on top of Mont Royal for a drink
Why you should go: This unique and seasonal cafe/bar is located at the top of the Mont Royal lookout. We wrote about the grand opening which was about a week ago, and the cafe is open now! It offers a number of delicious and refreshing drink and food options and starting in mid-June, they will also be serving alcohol which will make this the highest rooftop bar in the city.
7. Grab a snack and drink the new summer "Bier Garden" at Montreal's famous Olympic park
Why you should go: We recently wrote about the kick-off party for this very new seasonal outdoor event space in the East end of the city. It's not technically a restaurant only, it's even better. With free shows, performances, interactive games, and plenty of food and drink, this is a public space like no other.
6. Stop by Aire Commune in the Mile-End for a 5 a 7 drink and after work snack
Why you should go: This seasonal multi-use public space is brand new to the city and is already bumping with events and parties. It's a space to go to work and relax during the day - they have free wifi - and a place to drink and eat at night. They also host a bunch of free performances, shows, talks, and events for the community.
5. Visit water-front Village Au Pied Du Courant for outdoor food events all summer long
Why you should go: We write a lot about this spot because we are big supporters of public and shared community spaces. And although it's technically not only a restaurant, they do have food events on and off all summer, and tons of other family-oriented and most importantly free events to attend at this awesome outdoor space.
4. Go on an extra special date at Montreal's very unique floating Canal Lounge near Atwater
Why you should go: Whether you on top of the boat or in it, this beautiful resto/lounge will provide you with an unforgettable Montreal experience. Obviously, this is a seasonal spot that is only open during the warm months, so check it out before the boat is tugged out of the water for the winter.
3. Pop bottles at the beautiful and historic Terrasse Bonsecour in the Old Port
Why you should go: Terrasses Bonsecours is a historic site in Old Montreal that is transformed into a beautiful restaurant/bar/terrasse/party spot during the summer. You can do everything from brunch to party until 3am at this spot. Everyone should visit at least once, the view is magical.
2. Put on your fanciest outfit and grab a drink at Terrasse Nacarat up the top of the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth Hotel Downtown
Why you should go: We recently wrote about the opening of this stunning and brand new swanky rooftop terrasse in Downtown Montreal. It's perched on top a luxurious hotel but is open to anyone for drinks and light food. Great spot to hang with your friends for a special occasion.

Why you should go: I think out of all the seasonal terraces in the city, this one must be the biggest. It's definitely one of the most stunning, as it overlooks the beautiful Lachine canal and the old factories of our industrial past. A really great casual spot to bring someone who's never been to Montreal. It's officially open! 7-days a week, all summer long until the end of September.
