9 Themed Restaurants You Have To Try That Will Make You Feel Like You've Escaped Montreal

The day-to-day grind can really wear us down.  Sometimes it can seem like life consists of visiting the same three or four locations over and over again. And if you looked at the location data in your, it would probably - and sadly - be true.

They say variety is the spice of life. Well, you don't need to do something WILD or CRAZY to shake things up a bit. All it takes is a small change. A little tweak to your every day. Maybe you can take a different route walking home from the metro. Or just try a new place for lunch instead of the safe choice you always go for. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Why you should go: You can travel to Havana and back just by paying a visit to this little Montreal gem, tucked away on Union street smack in the center of Montreal's downtown core. A charming and inviting environment that's intimate enough for a date, but casual enough for a quick lunch. The drinks are to die for.


7. Koa Lua

Why you should go: If you really want to escape the office lunchroom, this is the place to go. This vibe of this place just warms you up instantly. And the food is as good as it looks too. Their specialty is Hawaiin Poke Bowls and they look incredible.


6. Venice MTL

Why you should go: Venice MTL feels like you just stepped off the streets of the Old Port and into a lazy beach town cafe off the coast of the South Pacific. Their food is as healthy and vibrant as their decor. Serving up Poke bowls, salads, and sandwiches, it's the whole package.

Why you should go: This downtown spot is designed to feel as if you're eating in a beautiful courtyard terrace and it's summer 365 days of the year. It's a great place to escape a grey and cold winter day. The lush, green, and vibrant decor is instantly relaxing. And the food is vegan, so get ready to feel as good as this place looks.


3. Cafe Leaves

Where: 2051 Rue De La Montagne

Why you should go: This intimate hidden gem is a little breathe of fresh air in the crazy Guy-Concordia downtown area. Step into a bright and fresh indoor garden that will make even the most stressful days feel like your walking on a fluffy cloud. They serve up delicious coffees and vegan pastries.

Why you should go: Now with two locations - the other being in Toronto - Le Lockhart is Montreal's only Harry Potter themed cocktail bar. Now all HP fans have somewhere to congregate and nerd out over a drink or a pint.

Why you should go: With a very inconspicuous facade - you literally have to walk into an alley to get to the entrance - this windowless "speak-easy" style cocktail bar and restaurant is definitely unique. They serve some of the most inventive cocktails in the city and also have a menu of the kind of food that's perfect for drinking. They don't take reservations or have a guest list, so we suggest that you get there early.
