Canadians are good at packing as many summer activities they can into the all-too-short few months of warmth that grace the country.
Event organizers also have a way of piquing Canadians' enthusiasm for all things summer. Festivals make use of tantalizing features to capitalize on this widespread seasonal excitement.
One event that is sure to make a splash (literally) this year and attract the interest of people across the country is the 5K Foam Fest.
This is no ordinary 5K — participants must navigate 16 obstacles of foam and mud before crossing the finish line.
an initial charge through a wall of foam
two mud crawls
a slip n' slide
a rope climb
and a final run through a bath of foam
Organizers also claim that the event includes "the world's largest inflatable waterslide."
While these obstacles may seem daunting, the 5K Foam Fest welcomes people of all athletic abilities. "The 5K Foam Fest is a one of kind Obstacle Course based Fun run. With a variety of obstacles and a ton of foam, the run is an exciting challenge for experienced and beginner runners alike," the event website reads.
This year, a 5K Foam Fest is coming to 14 Canadian cities:
Sun Peaks, BC
Red Deer, AB
Medicine Hat, AB
Wasaga Beach, ON
St. Catherines, ON
Corner Brook, NL
Right now, tickets are between $50 and $70, depending on the host city, but prices are set to jump after May 17th.
Proceeds support the Make A Wish Foundation.
