A Giant Free Paella Food Festival Is Coming To Montreal

If you've never heard of paella, welcome to your new favourite Spanish dish. It's a mess of rice and various other ingredients that are combined to make a delicacy that goes back to the mid-19th century.

The east coast of Spain is famous for the dish, however, now many regions have their own take on the dish. And this year at Montreal's Giant Paella Festival, you can try two different spins on the Spanish classic.

TL;DR If you're a paella lover or you're ready to try out this delicious dish from Spain for the first time, Montreal's Giant Paella Festival has you covered! This May 3rd-5th try out two different paellas. Details below.

Depending on the region of Spain you're looking at your apt to find seafood or mixed meat paella, with various veggies or beans tossed in.

There will be two choices of giant paellas available this year:

1. A Valencian paella made of chicken, seafood, shellfish and chickpeas.

2. A Catalan paella made with chicken and homemade chorizo sausages, the typical style of the region.

The giant paellas are expected to be 4 feet in diameter and will be made in the typical fashion of the two different regions in Spain.

You'll be able to purchase individual or family-sized paellas, allowing you to try both variations, pick your favourite and even share with your paella pals.

The event will take place from Friday, May 3rd, 2019 to Sunday, May 5th, 2019. Hours are from 11 AM - 6 PM every day. The best part? The festival is free to attend!

Tickets are free and entitle you to one individual portion of paella, though I assume this means that extra portions are available for purchase.

The Festival is taking place at the IGA Extra Famille Duchemin in Bois-Franc, just north of Station Cote-Vertu, at 5600 Boulevard Henri-Bourassa Ouest.

For more information on the event head to the Eventbrite page here. IGA extra Famille Duchemin also has the event pages shared on their Facebook page.
