A "Gourmet Food Village" Opens Today In Montreal

Montreal is both the unofficial festival-capital of North American and the undisputed champ of food culture in Canada. So when the two aspects of Montreal identity come together, ultimate perfection is achieved.

Food festivals represent the prime Montreal experience. There are dozens to choose from: from the Japanese "Street Food" Festival to Orientalys, a cultural and culinary celebration of the mid-east and Africa.

But perhaps no festival tops Bouffons, a gourmet food village that pops up on Ste-Catherine and de Bleury.

With over thirty cabins, each offering a different specialized food item, Bouffons is truly a summer gastronomic extravaganza.

It's a culinary paradise:

It seems to double as a festival of lights. The gourmet food village is a visual and literal feast. The works of art and colours that line the street serve to heighten the sensory experience. With diverse aromas pouring through the main thoroughfare, you senses will be overloaded.

A tiki bar occupies the very centre of the village, so visitors will be able to quench their thirst after stuffing their faces.

The event website also promises a "Bistro SAQ," which will supposedly offer gourmet wines and liquors. But after a surprise strike yesterday and looming negotiations between the SAQ employees' union and government officials, there's no telling whether that "bistro" will be operational.

The village opens today and continues through the 29th of July.

Be sure to check it out!
