Quebec is now home to a gun-toting, xenophobic milita group called the III%, and it is terrifying. 

Part of the Canada-wide “threeper” movement, the III% has several different chapters set up all across Quebec, reports Radio-Canada.

The “three percenters” are born out of an ideology from the United States, where certain individuals believe that only about 3% of Americans fought against the British in the American Revolutionary War. 

Now, the III% describes itself as “a national organization made up of patriotic citizens who love their country, their freedoms, and their liberty,” says the Canadian Three Percenters Facebook page. 

What does that mean, really? The group wants to ensure Canada is a place for white people. 

And, of course, the same is true for III% in Quebec. 

A professor in the Department of Social Sciences at the University of Ontario says the group idealizes a white, Francophone Quebec that doesn’t have any immigrants in it. 

Only white French speakers in Quebec? Sounds like a stance we’ve heard before.

What makes III% so scary, though, is that they have guns. And know how to use them. 

Despite not describing themselves as a “militia,” the III% tells prospective members they need to have a license to wield a firearm. 

Photos on the group’s Facebook page even shows members performing militaristic training, gun in hand. 

The Quebec chapters of III% have yet to do anything violent, but security officials are worried. These are individuals who are armed and ready to defend their rather radical values, so who knows what might set them off. 

The group has already been shown to be Islamophobic, xenophobic, and sees Justin Trudeau as a threat to national security, notes Radio-Canada. 

So yes, there is a group of racist people in Quebec, who own a bunch of guns, ready to protect their “freedoms.” Welcome to the world we live in, it’s a scary place.
