Anglophone Businesses In Quebec Prohibited From Government Services

A new initiative has just been pushed by the provincial government: all ministries and agencies have been told to solely use French when interacting with businesses based in Quebec.

The policy is still in its infancy, and has yet to be formally enforced, but government services have already been directed to re-write their own language policies. Bilingual websites have even been denounced.

Organizations representing Anglophones businesses (Quebec Community Groups Network, CEDEC) fear how the new directive will effect small business owners and entrepreneurs. While no evidence exists demonstrating negative repercussions, the general attitude is not positive.

Has the government gone too far?
