Wild American Black Friday Deals That Are Worth A Quick Road Trip Across The Border

We have the U.S. to thank for all our Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals that have crept into Canada. But why not thank our friends to the south by spending our hard-earned money at some of their stores? Black Friday, November 29, the day after American Thanksgiving is the busiest shopping day of the year. And American stores take full advantage of it — which is great for us who live only 90 minutes from the border.
But beware, not all Black Friday sales are created equal. According to The Washington Post, there are certain days when you'll save the biggest. Appliances and sporting goods are best to shop for on November 29, but television prices usually drop even lower on December 2.
The U.S. sales can be a little intense (we've all seen the videos) but if you can manage the crowds, you may be able to save even bigger and also shop at stores we don't have access to in Montreal.
With that in mind, we took a look at some of the biggest sales going on in the U.S. over Thanksgiving weekend. All the stores listed below have at least one location that is no more than a four-hour drive from Montreal (most are under two).
Here are 20 Black Friday deals in U.S. stores if you're up for a little road trip over the border.
Costco
When: November 28; while supplies last
Where: Various locations throughout the U.S.
You won't have to drive far over the border to hit a Costco. While the site says deals start on November 28, some amazing sales are already in progress. Save big on everything from electronics to houseware. Just beware of the crowds. Seriously. It's going to be nuts.
Macy's
When: November 27 to November 30
Where: Various locations throughout the U.S.
Macy's is one of the most popular stores in the U.S. for Black Friday shopping. And it's no wonder, with deals like 50% off designer handbags, and 30% off sunglasses. Some deals are only available in-store.
JCPenney
When: November 29; 2 p.m. Some sales continue through the week starting December 1.
Where: Various locations throughout the U.S.
The good news is that this Black Friday favourite is having even bigger sales than usual this year with things like 80% off fine jewelry and 30% off Nike brand. Also if you're one of the first people at the store, they are giving away gift cards of up to $500.
Walmart

Walmart has already started dropping deals in most of its categories. But expect even bigger sales on the 27th. You know all those wild news videos we see about crowds unleashing on stores during Black Friday? It happens at places like this. The deals are great, so stand strong.
Kohl's
When: Online November 25
Where: Various locations throughout the U.S.
You can get most everything on your list at this American department store. There are some early access deals going on now that you can take advantage of before November 29 like getting an extra 15% off when you buy online.
J.Crew
When: November 29
Where: Various locations throughout the U.S.
Touting this year's sale as its biggest ever, J.Crew has discounts on tons of quality clothing along with men's and women's jackets. You can sign up with your email to get early access to all the deals.
Best Buy
When: November 28-30; starting at 5 p.m. (you can shop online all day)

There are so many offers at Best Buy it's impossible to not find what you want. The real Black Friday sales are over the Thanksgiving weekend but they also have 24-hour savings leading up to it.
Target
When: November 28

You can sign up to become a member or RedCard holder and get access to the sales a day earlier than everyone else. As a RedCard member, you also get an extra 5% off and free two-day shipping.
Sears

November 28; 6 p.m. to 12 a.m.
November 29: 5 a.m.
Where: Various locations throughout the U.S.
Believe it or not, Sears is still going strong south of the border. And its Black Friday sales are one of the most popular. It's going to be wild. Some of the doorbuster deals include 60% off mattresses and 50% off kitchen appliances. Want to save more money? Lowe's

Lowe's didn't want to be late to the party and already has many sales going on now. Get deals on everything from lighting to ladders and kitchen appliances to Christmas decorations.
Verizon
When: November 28
Where: Various locations throughout the U.S.
While users of Verizon Wireless will be able to pick up some great deals, there will also be some for popular phones and accessories. It's worth taking a look at.
Lane Bryant

Where: Various locations throughout the U.S.
If you're looking to update your wardrobe, Lane Bryant is giving 40% off storewide on all of its clothes. There are also some amazing doorbusters in the works. You can sign up for emails to get a glimpse at the first bargains and an additional 15% off.
Staples

Other than amazing prices on all your work or home office needs, they make shopping a little more bearable by allowing customers to shop online on Thanksgiving day and pick up in-store on Friday morning.

One of the biggest pharmacies in the U.S. is having some great sales on a lot of its products. Get 50% off games and toys, or stock up on all those boring home necessities. If you spend $25 or more, you'll also get a free 25% off gift card.

Get up to 50% off on select styles from outerwear to a new pair of jeans. If you head to one of their many New Hampshire locations, you'll also save on sales taxes.

With its Canadian stores shutting down, it's still easy to shop at our favourite fast-fashion brand down south. Pre-sales have already started with 30% off all tops and bottoms.

If you can't wait until Black Friday, you can start shopping early at this home goods retailer. There are tons of options to set up any part of your house, with the biggest brand names in home decor.

You can already take a look at Nordstrom's site for some of the discounts that will be available. Everything is up for grabs at this department store, from clothes and makeup to shoes and home furnishings.
