When I was a kid, every March our family used to pile into our tiny car and head outside Montreal to our local sugar shack. It's a tradition. And it always will be in Eastern Canada. Maple Syrup is our liquid gold.
Although there are several different sugar shacks around the outskirts of the city, each offers a similar formula of rustic comfort food: beans, sausage, omelet, fried pork rinds, split pea soup, ham, and of course - congealed maple syrup on a popsicle stick.
Considering the maple syrup season is short, it's best to contact your sugar shack of choice and book a table ahead of time. Especially if you're going to be a large group of people. Don't forget your lumberjack gear and enjoy!
