The "cabane à sucre" is a Quebec classic. Now that the weather is warming up and that sweet, sweet sap is flowing, it's time to pack into a car and get yourself to the closest sugar shack.

Sugar shacks are not only great for enjoying tire sur la neige. They also have a ton of great food (some of it is vegan now!) like split pea soup and baked beans, as well as other delicious treats like those little maple cones.

Where: 280 Chemin du Domaine des Chutes, Chertsey.

What: Located in the Laurentians, this sugar shack is known for its high-quality meals. Starting this year, they have a vegan menu, so this is a great place to bring friends with dietary restrictions. Their super rustic decor is warm and welcoming, and they take reservations for large groups.


Sucrerie Bonaventure

Where: 15 400, rue Charles, Mirabel.

What: This rustic shack serves us the sweetest treats. Their menu, which is modifiable based on whether you are vegetarian, lactose intolerant, or gluten-free, serves up traditional Quebec comfort food. Located on a farm, this place is about a lot more than just food: enjoy a ride in a horse-drawn carriage, or stroll through their farm.


Cabane À Sucre Handfield

Where: 190 Rang des Soixante, Saint-Marc-sur-Richelieu.

What: This sugar shack in Saint-Marc-sur-Richelieu has an extensive, modifiable menu and a great selection of sweets. It's an "all you can eat" menu. If you're not in a food coma after lunch, head to the auberge's spa and enjoy a relaxing afternoon.


Cabane À Sucre Au Pied de Cochon

Where: 11382 Rang de la Fresnière, Mirabel.

When: This place, run by the same owners as the Au Pied de Cochon restaurant, is well-known for its appearance on Anthony Bourdain's "Parts Unknown." The Mirabel shack offers up a divine selection of creative fares, described by the website as " real live laboratory [that] reclaims the traditional sugar shack."


Un Chef à L'Érable

Where: Pavillon Jacques-Cartier, Montreal Old Port

What: For the fifth year, Un Chef à L'érable is proposing a sugar shack experience in the heart of downtown. Guests can enjoy a refined menu alongside traditional tire sur la neige. The sugar shack opens this Friday, March 15.


Érablière Charbonneau

Where: 45 Chemin du Sous-Bois, Mont-Saint-Grégoire.

What: This sugar shack offers a truly authentic experience while still being close to Montreal. Once you've eaten a traditional meal (or, more wisely, before your meal) take a stroll through their nature paths and enjoy the beautiful scenery.


Cabane À Sucre Constantin

Where: 1054, boul. Arthur-Sauvé, Saint-Eustache

When: Here, you can enjoy a meal and a ton of activities, from horse-drawn carriage rides to ATV rides, and everything in between. This cozy sugar shack serves up a fantastic experience and an even more fanstastic meal.
