Whether you're in a rush or sitting down with a cup of coffee, a perfectly baked croissant makes for the ideal morning snack. And, to be honest, the flaky and buttery pastry is delicious at any time of the day. Montreal has many bakeries who craft simply sublime croissants to satiate your cravings, and we've compiled a list of our favourites. L'Amour du Pain
All sorts of exquisite French baked goods and pastries can be found at L'Amour du Pain, with croissants being the star of the show. If you want to switch it up, there are a bunch of flaky croissant-ish pastries always offered, but you're gonna wanna go with the almond croissant anyway.
Arhoma
You can be traditional or adventurous at Arhoma, and try out their basic butter croissant or the pistachio, one of the many cool croissant-creations they offer. Either route is phenomenal, so just buy one of each and call it an awesome day.
Gascogne
You have tons to choose from at gascogne, but you're best bets are the croissants, which come in a few varieties, like they're famous almond type. A bit more expensive than some of the other spots, but well worth the very slight increase in price.
Au Kouign-Amann
What this bakery lacks in size, they definitely make up for in flavour and pretty much near-orgasmic croissants. Many a hungover morning have been spent by this guy, walking to the Mont-Royal metro and drowning my woes into a fresh and flaky croissant from AKA on the way. It always helps. They're menu goes well beyond simple croissants too.
Fous Desserts
A small and quaint bakery that makes croissants big on flavour. Expect these croissants to make you experience butter like never before. Trust, you're in for a full-fat revelation.
Chez Fred
Fancy and refined in style, but not in attitude, Chez Fred's line-up of baked goods range from simple to quite creative. Not only do they make fantastic croissants (of various varieties) but you can also enjoy much less standard, as well as savory, baked goods.
Les Co'Pains D'Abord
These guys take croissants very seriously, to the point that they outline their whole process online. All you need to know is that CPD's croissants are among the best in the city, plump and made with all kinds of buttery goodness.
Bar à Beurre
When butter is in the title, you know it's gotta be good, and Bar à Beurre, as small Italian bakery, does deliver. The pecan and almond is delicious, as are they're "butter balls," which are as good it sounds, especially the Nutella-coffee flavour.
Croissanterie Le Figaro
On the corner of Hutchison and Fairmount sits this little "corner of Paris." A bold statement, but their croissants, cool decor, and long list of other edibles live up to the namesake. They also have a very nice terrasse for summer-time brunches.
Duc de Lorraine
Since 1954 Duc de Lorraine has been making an assortment of baked goods and savory eats, using traditional recipes and high-quality ingredients. Over these 60 years, this bakery has earned the title of "best chocolate and almond croissants in Montreal" and we're not going to contest that.
Boulangerie Guillaume
A bountiful amount of breads are always available at Guillaume, all of them delicious, but their croisssants are just as good. Get a baguette and a croissant and you've got your carbs covered for the day in the best way.
Mamie Clafoutis
Founded in Outrement, Mamie Clafouti gives you a lot of option when it comes to croissants. The classic butter croissant is a solid choice, but the chocolatine is a bit more renowned, as is the pistachio chocolate croissant, a magic blend of sweet and savoury.
Maison Christian Faure
The fact that Maison Christian Faure runs a pastry school as well as a pastry shop gives the place some serious cred. True cred, however, comes from their delectable baked goods, croissants included.
Première Moisson
Sure, PM may be a "chain" but that doesn't mean they don't make a crazy good croissant. Première Moisson became huge for a reason, and they're croissants, straight out of the oven, are truly scrumptious. Plus, they make 8+ croissant-dough creations.
