Best Montreal Eggs Benedict In The Plateau

Trust me, I'm an eggspert.
Best Montreal Eggs Benedict In The Plateau

When it comes to going out for brunch, as soon as I see Eggs Benedict on the menu there's really no need to look any further, because that's exactly what I'll be having. This classic American breakfast is a delicious combination of poached eggs, ham, english muffin, and hollandaise sauce that comes together to hit the spot every time.

There are a few conflicting origin stories of this dish but the one I choose to believe (because it has held true for myself time and time again) is that is was created as a cure for a hangover by a man at the Waldorf Hotel in 1894. What's that you say? It's not only an incredibly tasty and filling meal but it also serves a very important purpose? Sign me up.

Pause & Vous

143 Mont Royal E

When it comes to having a consistently delicious variety of Eggs Benedict, Pause & Vous is definitely the place to go. They have 7 variations, with everything from the classic ham and hollandaise to a smoked duck version - which I highly recommend: complete with smoked duck breast, duck confit, and caramelized onions. Everything here is so tasty that it'll have even the biggest eggs benny connoisseur in shock and awe.

Restaurant Le Vieux Saint Laurent

3993 Saint Laurent

The Eggs Benedict at Le Vieux Saint Laurent is a perfect example of "less is more". It's a simple and classic eggs benny but everything is done perfectly, from cooking the eggs just right to absolutely nailing the richness of the hollandaise sauce. The home fries that come with it are also, not surprisingly, insanely delicious and should be used to mop up any and all leftover sauce.

I must admit, because it's freakin' delicious, Universel has always been my go-to when I'm in serious need of some Eggs Benedict. They have 9 different kinds on their menu, with variations including everything from asparagus, to bacon, to smoked salmon. If you're looking for something that's extra hearty, go for The Universel. It comes with bacon, sausage, gruyere cheese and mushrooms, topped with 2 poached eggs and Hollandaise sauce, all served over a bagel.

Restaurant L'Avenue

922 Mont Royal E

L'Avenue is known for their hearty brunch dishes, and their Eggs Benedict is no exception. They have an amazing steak version which comes with perfectly seasoned steak, poached eggs and a rich and creamy hollandaise sauce, finished off with a side of their savoury potatoes. But if seafood is more up your alley, they also make an unbelievable smoked salmon version that will send you into brunch bliss.

Restaurant L'Evidence

3817 Saint Denis

This bistro boasts a whopping 9 different Eggs Benedict on their menu, each one delicious in its own way. If you're looking for a vegetarian option, try The Mademoiselle. It comes with sautéed vegetables and cheddar cheese and is every bit as delicious as its meat counterpart. The Oscar is another real standout option, made with delicious crab and fresh spinach.

Normally a bar isn't the first place you think of when you want a good brunch, but Sparrow is an exceptional bar with a killer menu. They only use local and organic ingredients to make their dishes, so everything is fresh and flavourful. Their version of Eggs Benedict is a very unique, and very mouthwatering, one. It's called the Shakshuka, made with two poached eggs and moroccan spiced tomato sauce on top of sourdough toast - it's an amazing combination of flavours that's sure to kickstart your day.

Bagel Etc.

4320 Saint Laurent

Staying true to the name of their restaurant, Bagel Etc. serves their Eggs Benedict atop a Fairmount bagel, which may seem a little strange, but trust me, it works. If you like having your food on the spicy side, try the Heuvos Rancheros (it's topped with salsa and is incredibly flavourful) but for something a little more traditional, you can get the Benny Goodman.

25 Fairmount O

With 5 different kinds of Eggs Benedict on their menu, this Montreal breakfast favourite has something for everyone. My go-to is always The Smokey: savoury smoked salmon and cream cheese with hollandaise sauce. But if you're looking to have something a little healthier (well, as healthy as Eggs Benedict can get) go for The Santé. It comes with sautéed spinach, crumbled feta, and is topped with hollandaise sauce, served on grilled tomato slices.

Brutus Bar

1290 Beaubien E

The Eggs Benedict at this bacon bar is not only one of the best in Montreal but one of the best, period. You can order it off of their weekend brunch menu, where it's listed as the Bene Bacon. This delicious creation is made with baby-back bacon, emmental cheese, red stag and chilli sauce, and is served with their signature hashballs (which are amazing in their own right).
