Best Montreal Fondue Restaurants 2016
Alright, raise your hand if you love fondue. Is your hand raised? It should be, because fondue is straight up awesome. It promotes sharing, portion control (maybe), and, best of all, there's a pot of melted, gooey goodness, right there in the centre of your table. Unless you're taking a broth fondue. In which case, there's a pot of boiling, delicious goodness, right in the centre of your table.
Luckily, Montreal has got tons of awesome places to get some seriously delicious fondue. It can be a little difficult to navigate through Montreal's fondue restaurant scene whenever you're craving some melty goodness, though - but don't worry. That's what I'm here for. Read on for Best Montreal Fondue Restaurants 2016.
1. Creperie Chez Suzette
Straight up, if you love fondue, you're going to love Chez Suzette. As the name suggests, this spot does serve up some seriously awesome crepes. But the real hidden star of this show? Their amazing fondues. Not only do they offer three different types of the dish - Chinese fondue, cheese fondue, and chocolate fondue - but the actual flavours they offer are so, so delicious. An example? Cheese fondues featuring sundried tomatoes and fine herbs, and chocolate fondue with the amazing addition of Bailey's.
2. La Raclette
This Plateau spot is seriously amazing. A French/European restaurant offering a legitimately delicious European-style "Raclette" dish, La Raclette also offers fresh and tasty food, a welcoming, friendly, and classic atmosphere, and super fair prices. Oh, and one of the most mouthwatering cheese fondue dishes - featuring Swiss cheese, cured meats, and other delights - that you can get in the city. Fans of fondue, you just found your new fave.
3. Fondue Kim Long
Chinese hot pot, anyone? Chinese fondue is a bit different than your typical cheese fondue, but it's still seriously amazing. Instead of plunging your food into a blend of melted cheese, you're sticking thin, yummy slices of meat into one or two specially prepared Chinese broths. And one of the best places to grab yourself some awesome Chinese fondue? Right in St. Michel. Fondue Kim Long features savoury, tasty broths, fresh meats, and crisp vegetables, all of which translates into one awesome Chinese fondue experience.
4. La Fonderie
Ah, La Fonderie. This Plateau staple has been in Montreal for decades, and for one very good reason: Their fondues are out of this world. Not only does this spot offer multiple different types of delicious fondues - such as Swiss cheese and Fondue Bourguignonne - but their meat selection is out of this world, too. Seriously. Picture dipping filet mignon, scallops, and jumbo shrimp into complex, delicious broths... sounds pretty awesome, doesn't it, friends? (Yes. And it is.)
5. La Fondue Du Prince
West Island fondue lovers, rejoice. La Fondue Du Prince, located in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, is pretty much the perfect spot for a date, for a gathering, or for just straight up enjoying a fondue night with anyone you choose (even if it's alone. No judgements, friends). What makes it one of the most awesome spots to grab some fondue? Well, its waterfront location and friendly, welcoming vibe have a lot to do with it - but really, their fondue takes the cake. Their ingredients are high-quality and fresh, and combine to create complex and tasty fondues; combine all of that with some super fair prices, and you've got the recipe for your next fave.
6. Cacao 70
Okay, I know what you're going to say. "Miranda, Cacao 70 is a chocolate shop. Not a fondue restaurant. What's wrong with you?" And, yes, Cacao 70 does specialize in serving us up some seriously awesome chocolate delights... which include their super popular chocolate fondue dishes. With five different kinds of decadent chocolate fondues to choose from, including one featuring chocolate and peanut butter, Cacao 70 is one of the best spots for you to go if you're craving something a little more on the melty side for dessert. The best part? All their fondue dishes offer waffles, brownies, and fresh fruit for you to dip into your bowl of choco-happiness.
7. Shabu Shabu Kagayaki
Friends, have you ever had Japanese fondue? If not, you've been missing out. But don't worry. That's what Kagayaki is for. Boasting six different types of homemade broth for you to cook your meat and veggies in, and tons of meat/vegetable options for you to pick from - including prime Angus beef, lamb, and Nagano pork - Kagayaki is quite possibly the best shabu-shabu (Japanese fondue) spot in the city. Don't walk there, friends. Run there.
8. Juliette Et Chocolat
Chocolate fondue on point, life on point. And the chocolate fondue at Juliette Et Chocolat? So, so on point. Friends, there's nothing I can really say that'll replace the experience of going to Juliette Et Chocolat and indulging in a bowl of melty, fresh, delicious chocolate - but let me just say that, with fondue dishes featuring fruits, brownies, marshmallows, and other sweet treats, as well as melted chocolate options such as white chocolate maple and chocolate praline, this spot should seriously be next on your list.
9. Little Sheep Mongolian Hot Pot
Remember before, when I said that Chinese fondue was amazing? Well, I meant it. The only thing that could possibly be better than Chinese fondue, though? All you can eat Chinese fondue. That's right, friends. Little Sheep Mongolian Hot Pot, located right in Montreal's Chinatown, not only boasts super fresh ingredients and incredibly flavourful broths, but it just so happens to be an all you can eat Mongolian hot pot spot. So you can dip as much of their fresh, thinly sliced meats and crisp veggies into their complex, delicious broths as you want.
Featuring an extensive fondue menu, Alpenhaus is the place to go if you're craving lots of variety - and lots of delicious fondue. Other than that, though, Alpenhaus promises to take your fondue night to a whole other level. This place is an experience: Their decor is awesome (it follows a cabin-like theme), the food is always fresh and delicious, and pretty much everything about this place is so, so on point. New fave? Found.
