Best Montreal Ice Cream Spots

Happiness on a cone.

We made it, friends. Winter in Montreal is officially over and done with; the sun is coming out; the grass is getting green... spring (and summer!) is here. Finally.

Not going to lie, I feel like we've been super patient this year. Winter was long and harsh, and we deserve to bask in as much sunshine and summer fun as we possibly can. And, of course, by "summer fun", I actually mean "consuming as much ice cream as humanly possible." Thankfully, Montreal has no lack of awesome places to do this.

1. Virevent

1517 Rue Fleury E

Alright, confession. This place is my one true weakness - I'm actually constantly there. But my addiction isn't for nothing, friends: The ice cream here is seriously out of this world.

First of all, all of their frozen delights are homemade using the highest quality of ingredients. Their soft serve is rich, creamy, and incredibly delicious; and if you dip it into one of their multiple flavours of Belgian chocolate? OMG. Heaven. (Protip: My personal fave is their vanilla ice cream dipped into cappuccino chocolate. Ahhhmazing.)

Their gelato is made in-house, too, and is a serious treat. Although they offer some of the more traditional flavours, like pistachio (my personal fave), they've also got more unique varieties, like strawberry basil and black forest.

2. Kem CoBa

60 Avenue Fairmount O

At this point, if you haven't tried one of the mind-blowing ice creams at Kem CoBa - well, I don't even know what to tell you. Let me just say that there's a reason why this Plateau ice cream shop is seriously adored by every single Montrealer who has had the pleasure of trying one of their cones.

Pretty much everything is awesome at Kem CoBa. They've got a litany of unique, rotating flavours, made using fresh and high-quality ingredients; their soft serve is perfectly creamy and rich; their frozen yogurt is tasty, fresh, and amazing; friends, I could go on forever. At the end of the day, you're just going to have to go there and experience their works of art for yourself.

3. La Diperie

68 Ave des Pins E

Honestly, how iconic is La Diperie at this stage in the game? (Answer: Very, very iconic). There's a reason why this Plateau spot is so insanely popular, though.

Their ice creams are out of this world, basically. Not only is every single creamy delight rich, fresh, and delicious, but as an added bonus? You get to dip their yummy soft-serve cones into whatever you want. So, if you're craving a white chocolate pistachio vanilla ice cream, you can go ahead and get yourself one. If you're more of a milk chocolate coating dipped in pretzels and Oreo crumbles type of person? Then go nuts, friend.

The possibilities, much like the yums, are endless.

4. Ripples

3880 Boul St-Laurent

Honestly, prepare to start crying tears of real happiness the second you step into this ice cream spot.

It's not just that Ripples has possibly the most awesome flavour selection I've ever come across (um, blackberry chocolate chunk cheesecake ice cream? I'm totally there for that!). It's not just that it's located right on the Main, meaning that it's easily accessible and located on one of Montreal's trendiest streets. It's not even just that their ice cream is made in-house and constantly comes out refreshing, rich, and all-around awesome.

It's all of these things, put together, that makes Ripples one of the best ice cream experiences in Montreal.

5. Wild Willy's

20 Avenue Cartier

From the West Island? Then I'm totally certain that you've been to Wild Willy's, located in Pointe-Claire Village, at least once in your life. (If not, drop everything and go there. Right now. Pronto).

For those of us not from the West Island, allow me to explain. Wild Willy's serves up one seriously mean bowl of ice cream. Their frozen morsels of heaven are homemade and seriously, mouthwateringly delicious - they're so good, in fact, that even if you're not in the West Island, you absolutely need to make the trek and try one of their cones.

Oh, and all the bonus points for their stellar, waterfront location. Need a date spot? Or somewhere to take an awesome summer stroll while noshing on some on-point ice cream? Look no further.

6. Les Givres

2730 Rue Masson

If you're a lover of ice cream, then you know about Les Givres. If you're a lover of ice cream, and you don't know about Les Givres? Well, then, you've got to get yourself there, ASAP - no questions asked.

First of all, the homemade, artisanal ice cream here is pretty much the definition of perfection on earth, coming out flawlessly rich, creamy, sweet, and delicious, every single time. Wrap this all together with their super fair prices, incredibly welcoming vibe, and super friendly service, and you've pretty much got the recipe for your newest favourite ice cream spot.

7. Deli Sokolow

4350 Rue Notre-Dame O

Alright, honestly? This place is one serious hidden gem.

First of all, they've got latke poutines, which is pretty much the best thing on this earth, if you ask me. Actually, scratch that. Their ice cream is pretty much the best thing on this earth. The soft-serve ice cream here is a work of pure art: Not too sweet, perfectly creamy, and just exactly what you need to cool yourself down when the weather is gorgeous in Montreal.

8. Point G

1266 Avenue du Mont-Royal E

Point G might be mostly known for their amazing macarons, but the real star of the show? Their refreshing, awesome ice cream.

This creamy, homemade cup of pure heaven will leave you with a serious smile on your face. But if you can't choose between their macarons or their ice cream, then don't worry, they got you. With their macaron ice cream sandwich - consisting of their amazing ice cream sandwiched between to of their scrumptious macaron shells - you're going to leave Point G 100% happy, 100% of the time.

9. Gema

6827 Rue Saint Dominique

If you know me at all, then you know how obsessed I am with the pizza at this Little Italy spot.

But Gema is about much, much more than just awesome pizza. Their ice cream - well, technically, frozen custard - packs some seriously awesome flavour. They've got both Belgian chocolate and vanilla bean varieties, and you can top it with things like Bacci crumble (!!), butterscotch sauce, and rainbow vermicelli. If this doesn't sound like happiness in a cup, then honestly, I don't know what does.

10. Cremerie Pineault

3307 Boul Saint-Martin Est

This ice cream spot is located in Laval, which might be a bit of a trek for some of us - but just trust me on this one thing, friends... it's more than worth the travel time. The ice cream here is beyond amazing.

Other than having some seriously fresh and flavourful frozen stuff, Pineault's fame comes from the fact that you can customize your cone. I mean, really, truly customize it: You can pick and combine any tasty flavours for a soft serve ice cream that's totally unique to you. Protip? Try the strawberry-banana. Out of this world, friends. Out of this world.
