10 Super Cheap Things To Do For The Perfect Date In Montreal's Old Port

Old Montreal is for many one of the best places to visit in Montreal. The historical value in the old architecture, the cute shops that line the narrow streets, and all of the events and attractions down by the port is what makes it both a tourist and local favourite.

For many of us, going on a date in Old Montreal would definitely be easy to do and plan... IF we weren't on a budget or trying to not break the bank. Old Montreal is pretty expensive most of the time, but there are some unique and incredibly cheap solutions that you can try out next time you and your significant other have date night!

1. Watch Fireworks at the Montreal International Fireworks Competition

Running from July 7 to August 8, the best views for this event are going to be in Old Port. Take a nice evening stroll with your significant other and bring a blanket to sit on while watching the fireworks all night. The event is selling tickets to see the show up close, but you can get the same great seating for absolutely free by staying in Old Montreal.

2. Go on a Treasure Hunt!

This Old Port favourite is filled with 2 kilometres of interactive maze filled with obstacles and traps, the goal being you solve the mystery within an alotted time to escape the maze and win. 3. Visit the Notre-Dame Basilica

No visit to Montreal's historic district is complete without having a tour at least once in your life of one of Canada's most stunning churches. You and your date can learn about the historical art, architecture and construction of the church by going on a guided tour or grabbing an information pamplet and exploring on your own. Admission is only $6 each which gives you full access to everything the church offers.

4. Catch a free Festival show

5. Rent a BIXI Bike take a romatic bike ride

Renting a BIXI bike for the day is only $5, and imagine how fun it would be to cycle through the cute European-esque streets of Old Montreal together. Ride your bikes down to the port and check-out all of the event stands attractions.

6. Enjoy Some Free Art

To experience some unique street art with your date, start in Place Jaques-Cartier where tons of artists set up and showcase their talents. Continue along rue St.Paul to find many art galleries lining the streets that'll let you walk in and admire the art for free. 

7. Check out all of the Event Tents 

Old Port is currently hosting a ton of event tents that are absolutely free to visit, some even offering a bunch of free samples for you and your date to try out. Events vary from food to activities to art so you can create an entire date just off of checking out these tents.

8. Visit the Museums

Some of the best museums in Montreal are located in Old Port, a fitting location due to it's vast history. Pointè-à-Callière is the only major archaeology museum in Quebec, with tickets $13 each you can your date can learn about all of the major eras in the history of Montreal.

9. Watch an IMAX Movie at the Science Centre

With tickets only $12 each, this interactive experience theatre is one of the coolest movies you'll ever go to. An especially great idea for a first date, this is definitely a movie date no one will be bored with and will boast tons of conversation afterwards. Check out their showtimes HERE.

10. Go to the Great Montreal PoutineFest

From July 31 to August the PoutinFest will be held rain or shine in the heart of Old Port. Admission is absolutely free and the event includes not only tons of poutine by live music and games too. What's a better way to spend the day in Old Port with a date than to be stuffing your faces with poutine!
