Montreal's coffee culture is like no other. We pride ourselves on our unique cafes, which each offer something new and different for us to discover. Although we're always looking for something unique and special in each cafe we visit, we're also looking for a perfectly brewed cup of coffee. In Montreal, there's no doubt that you're going to find delicious coffee at almost any cafe you go to.

The abundance of cafes in this city is also amazing, you can turn almost any corner and you'll find multiple independent cafes just waiting to be discovered. Almost all of the cafes here in Montreal can be considered good, but there are a few that can be considered better than good, they're AMAZING!

1. Cafe Aunja

Cafe Aunja is a popular Persian cafe featuring unique and delectable teas and a wide range of coffees and food options. The cafe itself is the most adorable cafe you'll find in this city. It is slightly below sidewalk level so you can sit in the big comfy chairs in the front window and watch the bustling of the street pass you by. The twinkling lights above you head will provide a relaxing and cozy vibe while you enjoy your delicious latte!


2. Cafe Melbourne

4615 Boul St-Laurent

Cafe Melbourne is an Australian cafe located right here in Montreal. They make some unique meals such as a vegemite avocado toast or their classic jaffle, which is basically a sealed sandwich stuffed with all kinds of goodies! The patio of this cafe is most adorable feature, it has string lights along the long wooden fence with plants and cute tables scattered all around. If you're looking for an awesome cafe to enjoy a unique and amazing lunch while you enjoy the best coffee, this is the place for you!

This Saint Henri staple is one of the most unique cafes you'll find in this city. They have some unreal coffee, imagine the most perfect latte you've ever had, and their interior is sleek, simple and classic! You'll feel right at home when you come to this cafe. What makes this cafe so unique is that their main theme is surfing. They have a room in the back of the cafe with a window open to the large spacious interior where customers can watch actual surfboards being made!


4. Paquebot Cafe

This is one of the best cafes that you need to discover right now. They have a bright neon sign that reflects off of their shiny tables as well as their cute whale decoration which holds bags of coffee. What really stands out about this cafe is their unique coffee selections. They make cold brew cocktails, which each feature their own cold brew coffee and a variety of choices such as the Titonic which includes tonic water, rhubarb bitters and lemon!


5. Buck15 Espresso Bar

3027 Rue Notre-Dame O

Buck 15 is my new cafe obsession for one simple reason, the insanely amazing things that they can do with toast! You probably wouldn't think that toast would be something to get excited over, but Buck15 takes their toast to an entirely new level. They make an amazing avocado toast with a perfectly poached egg on top and they also make a ricotta cheese toast beautifully topped with an assortment of fruits! You won't be disappointed with this brunch/cafe spot.


6. Noble Cafe

430 Avenue Laurier E

This is a tiny little cafe located in the Mile End, known for their adorable outdoor seating and ice cream treats in the summer. I tried my very first affogato at this cafe and it was everything that I could have hoped for and more. If you don't already know what an affogato is, it's soft serve ice cream with a delicious shot of espresso poured on top, it's like heaven in a cup. Enjoy their perfectly made coffees on your way to work, or stop and stay awhile!


7. Cafe OSMO

Cafe OSMO is a super cool cafe that you must try out if you haven't already. It is decorated with turquoise blue metal chairs, wooden tables, and skylights allowing all the natural light into stream onto the floors. This cafe is attached to Nottman House, which is a location dedicated to start up companies. Cafe OSMO was made to be a space where young entrepreneurs could come and network with other people creating their own startup companies as well.


8. Melk Cafe

1206 Rue Stanley and 5612 Av de Monkland

This classic Montreal cafe has two locations at completely different ends of the city, making it accessible for everyone! Their best feature is their amazing baked goods. Try their stylish homemade donuts, a delicious chocolatey cookie or a lemon poppyseed loaf! During the fall months they also have specialty flavoured lattes, such as their maple syrup latte or their pumpkin spice latte!


9. Cafe Sfouf

1250 Rue Ontario E

Cafe Sfouf is a Lebanese cafe bringing a whole lot of culture and an inviting atmosphere to Montreal's growing coffee culture. The interior of this cafe is teeming with plants lining the walls and hanging from the ceiling lights, bright yellow chairs, and a garage door that opens up when the weather is bright and beautiful. As for their food and coffee, try their savoury and sweet tartines or their lebanese brunch option, which is a very popular choice. They have classic coffee choices such as lattes, chai lattes and match lattes, or for non coffee people they have a delicious golden milk with tumeric, black pepper and honey!

24 Ave des Pins E

This cute cafe is located in plain sight on Pins Avenue and is your next favourite cozy cafe spot! The staff here are incredibly friendly and each coffee is made with care and precision, guaranteeing you a great cup every time. Try their chemex coffee featured above, which is an individually brewed coffee. They also have some great food here, try their amazing salads, classic Montreal bagels or a croissant!


11. Brooklyn Cafe

71 Rue Saint Viateur E

This cute and quirky coffee shop is a must visit if you're looking to discover a new cafe here in the city. They have folding chairs lined up in front of the shop so you can drink your coffee outside, or they also have a big patio in the back where you can enjoy your coffee surrounded by plants and trees! The pastries here are what this cafe is really known for though, they make some amazing croissants you must try while you're here.

One of the coolest features of this cafe is that it doubles as a cool furniture store as well, so you can browse the modern furniture selection while you wait for your order! The only downfall of this cafe is that they don't offer wifi, you'll just have to enjoy deep and meaningful conversations instead!


12. Soucoupe Cafe

This hidden Montreal cafe is one of the cutest spots you need to discover this fall. Even though it's small, it has a whole lot of character which makes it a cafe that you'll want to spend your afternoons sipping a delicious coffee and catching up on some work. They feature art by local artists on the walls, they make homemade goodies like muffins, cakes and sandwiches!


13. Cafe Larue & Fils

This is one of the hippest cafes that you must try right here in Montreal. It prides itself on it's friendly service and amazing third wave coffee, providing it's valued customers with an amazing atmosphere to enjoy their morning brew. During the summer they open up a large patio adding extra seating, and they decorate the outdoors with streamers of colourful flags! The sidewalk also has it's very own bright coloured painted mural making this a unique and gorgeous cafe location.


14. Oui Mais Non Cafe

72 Rue Jarry E

This is one of the most interesting cafes this city has to offer. The interior is a mix between modern, sleek decor and your grandma's basement with big comfy chairs and couches everywhere. The coffee choices here are limited but delicious, they offer the classics such as lattes, espresso and cappuccino and they are impeccably made. This is a popular destination for students to come to study since they offer a large range of seating areas!
