Crème brûlée, or burnt cream, is a French dessert consisting of  a rich custard with a hard caramelized top. It's usually made with a vanilla flavoured base, but endless variations and flavours have cropped up over the years.

1. Le Quartier General

This BYOB upscale bistro serves up some of the best Quebecois cuisine in the city, and luckily for us, their crème brûlée is par for the course. It's an indulgent vanilla custard with a perfectly thick caramelized crust topped with fruit. If you find yourself in the neighbourhood, it's definitely worth a try.

If you're looking for an authentic mom-and-pop owned and operated French bistro, then Bistro Duo D is the place for you. They have a small menu, but thankfully it features a delicious vanilla crème brûlée. The flavours of the custard are light and fresh and it has a perfectly dark golden brown crisp top. It's the perfect way to end what is sure to be a delicious meal.

Down in Old Port, Chef Laurent Godbout's Chez L'épicier has dish after dish of amazing French cuisine on it's menu. But the best part about this restaurant? They have a medley of crème brûlées so that you don't have to settle for just one type. When it comes to traditional French cuisine, Au Petit Extra is one of the best. They have a chalkboard menu filled with mouthwateringly delicious choices, but the stand out dish is their crème brûlée. The custard is a velvety vanilla that will melt in your mouth, and it has a satisfyingly crisp top. It's a guaranteed great way to end your meal.

This cozy exposed-brick Italian eatery knows how to do crème brûlée right. Their's has a rich creamy custard, with just the right amount of sweetness to it, and it's caramelized to perfection and served up in an individual ramekin with fresh berries on top.

Operating for more than 75 years, Moishes is an old-world steak house that has a menu completely riddled with tasty choices. If you take a look at their dessert section, you'll find a simple, sweet, and consistently delicious crème brûlée that will be the metaphorical cherry on top of your already delicious meal.

The next time that you go to this Montreal favourite, make sure you save room for dessert. This vegetarian restaurant has a ginger and basil crème brûlée on the menu - the flavours of which will blow your mind. The custard is a perfect consistency and the top is always crisp. But be warned, the portions are pretty big, so this is easily a sharable dessert.

The gourmet French menu at Bonaparte always features an interesting crème brûlée flavour. Previously, it was a foie gras crème brûlée, but now the menu is showcasing a Madarine Napoleon liquer crème brûlée. It's every bit as delicious as it sounds, and will bring your tastebuds to life more and more with every bite.
