Face it, you don’t have any more appropriate seasonal footwear because you fell into the temptation of buying $3 sandals from Forever 21, didn’t you? And I’m assuming that went the way Rome did. Falling apart. Well luckily, I’ve listed the best stores where you can indulge your shoe addiction and not break the bank. It is possible, you’ve just gotta know where to go! Plus you'll need a cheap pair you won't mind ruining the next time you decide to party your heart out.
1. Mile End Kicks (MEK)
5403 Av du Parc, Montréal, QC H2V 4G9
Mile End Kicks deliver just what their name suggests. They give you your beloved brands (Converse, Keds, Toms) styled up nice and at a reasonable price. You can get a pair of Tom’s for $35, and those bad boys will last you a while. They carry both men’s and women’s footwear, and stick pretty much exclusively to casual footwear. Perfect for everyday stuff like biking and hiking, which I know you Montrealers will be doing a lot of.
2. Abra Kad Abra
763 Avenue Du Mont-Royal E
If you’re the kind of person who taps into their inner hippy when the warm weather rolls around, say no more. Abra Kad Abra will blow your mind. It’s the kind of vintage store that doesn’t feel like a vintage store. The thing that really brings Abra Kad Abra to the next level is their show collection. They have EVERYTHING. Seriously any kind of footwear you want. You like to wear cute wicker wedges in the summer, they have that. You like to wear thigh – high leather boots in the middle of June, they have that too!
3. Cul De Sac
371 Du Mont-Royal Av E
Cul De Sac is a thrifting favourite in Montreal. But I can personally say that they have a great collection of sandals. And the best part? These sandals are vintage, are well made, most likely designer. I’d rather buy a pair of vintage Steve Madden sandals for $15-$20, then get $2 knock offs from Ardene that will fall apart as soon as you leave the store. End of story.
4. LiME Montreal
Les Cours Mont-Royal, Place Versailles, and at Trois-Rivières.
If you like deals then say no more. LiME is a 100% Montreal based store that has the most adorable and inexpensive clothes out there. Ad their footwear is no exception. When it comes to their shoes, LiME sticks to current trends and easy to wear styles. Their shoes go well with sundresses and floral shorts. Anything light, airy and saying “it’s summer and I am cute and comfortable!”
5. Annex Vintage
56 Saint-Viateur W
This is for all you style mongrels out there. Annex Vintage is the place to be when looking for that put together, hipster vibe. I’m super into their loafers and their suede summer booties. It’s clear these guys are a fashionable and reliable source to buy your summer shoes from. And hey, while your there why not buy an outfit to go with your new kicks?
6. Boutique Oxford
st w 2l3, 174 Rue Saint Viateur O
If you’re not into casual/vintage footwear, then no fear, I still got you covered. Boutique Oxford has some more expensive-ish shoes if you’re on a budget, but compared to the competitor I’d say their prices are fair. I mean if you’re buying pristine designer shoes, I’m assuming you’re ready to spend a little. But at Oxford you can get all this for under $100. Which is pretty nice for those of us who have an addiction to new shoes. We can’t help it man. We just have good taste.
