Guys, tartare is not just a delicious dish. Tartare is a way of life.
And if you don't agree with me... well, I hate to say it, but that's probably just because you haven't had a good enough plate of tartare just yet.
But don't worry. I'm here for you, friend, and I'm here to totally recommend one amazing place, situated in Montreal's Ahuntsic, that'll literally change the way you look at tartare.
Le Petit Flore (1145 Rue Fleury E) is an adorable bistro specializing in French cuisine. They have tons of different dishes to choose from, like croque monsieurs, eggs Benedict (with duck confit!), crepes, and a whole lot more.
Although all of their food is seriously impressive (trust, no matter what you choose, you'll be hooked on this spot), a major standout for me is their tartare.
I can't quite put my finger on what it is about Petit Flore's tartare. I mean, I've had some amazing tartare dishes in my life... but this one just takes the (raw fish?) cake for me.
To my understanding, they have a permanent lamb tartare with Turkish spices that's offered on their Table D'Hote menu.
But the tartare I tried was their tartare du moment - and it was to die for.
This dish changes periodically. When I first went, I had their beef tartare... and let me tell you, I was blown away. Not only was it fresh (as is to be expected of any decent tartare), but it was also expertly made, with flavours and textures that complimented each other.
Nothing was overpowering, and the freshness of the beef stood out the most, but everything came together to make for one seriously amazing meal.
I went back later and tried their marlin tartare, just to prove to myself that this wasn't a fluke - and nope, it was not. This tartare dish was just as fantastic.
