Alright, quick show of hands - who here knows about Villeray? I'm sure everyone's hand is up right now, but just in case there are a couple of us who are still unfamiliar with this borough, let's get this out of the way now: Villeray is awesome.
Seriously. Not only is it full of beautiful parks and awesome things to do and see, but Villeray also happens to be full of amazing places to eat. If you need some help navigating through the awesomeness, though, then don't worry. I've got your back. Read on for Best Restaurants In Montreal's Villeray 2016.
Okay, who here loves tapas? I know, friends, I know. Everyone loves tapas. And the tapas at Tapeo? Totally game changing. The menu here features simple and delicious tapas dishes, such as chorizo, pork carpaccio, and salmon tartare; but to be completely honest, it doesn't matter too much what you decide to eat. Every single thing on their menu is fresh, perfectly cooked, and so, so flavourful. Winning deliciously, friends. Winning deliciously.
Ah, Mesón. Where do I even begin? First of all, this Spanish eatery was created by the same team behind Tapeo - so you know for sure that you're in for an awesome time. But while Tapeo is centred around tapas, Mesón's menu features delicious and hearty contemporary Spanish dishes. Much like Tapeo, though, Mesón features fresh ingredients, vibrant flavours, and flat-out delicious dishes. Add this in with its super hip atmosphere, and you've got the perfect recipe for your new favourite spot.
Alright, I've shown Imperio some major love in the past. Of course, this is for one very good reason: Imperio is seriously amazing. Not only is their Portuguese chicken crispy, tender, and just all-around delicious, but they've got the awesome prices and awesome ambiance to match. All the yums, my friends. All the yums.
4. Le Toasteur
Friends, I think we know each other well enough for you to know that I'm lowkey obsessed with breakfast. And one of my favourite spots to grab a bite of the day's most important meal? Le Toasteur. Their breakfast dishes are always super fresh, tasty, and comforting; and they come with a nice helping of fresh, yummy fruit. But my own personal favourite? Their crepes. They're perfectly cooked, soft, tasty, and come jam-packed with all the best fillings. Breakfast goals? Breakfast goals.
The dishes at this French restaurant feature market-fresh ingredients, and that right in and of itself should tell you how quality this restaurant is. Seriously, friends: the ingredients are always super fresh, and they combine together to create some of the tastiest dishes in Villeray. Although their meals are amazing (bison short ribs braised in beer, holla at me), their desserts? Yeah. A thing of pure beauty. Two words: Pudding Chômeur. Yum.
6. Da Lillo
Okay, Da Lillo wins some serious awesome points for combining two of my favourite cuisines - Portuguese and Italian - into one awesome place. Seriously. What are you in the mood for? Delicious, cheesy, crispy arancini? Portuguese bitoque, served up juicy and tender and with a delicious fried egg on top? Crisp, moist portuguese chicken? Pizza? No matter what you're craving, they've got it at Da Lillo. And the best part? It's always fresh, cooked right, and, in a word: amazing.
7. Las Palmas
Friends, have you ever tried a pupusa? If you haven't, then I'm not going to spoil it for you. All I'm going to say is that you absolutely have to try one right now, and you better make sure that it's from Las Palmas. The handmade pupusas here are absolutely mind-blowing: always fresh, fluffy, delicious, and packed with gooey, yummy cheese and an abundance of fillings. While it's true that their pupusas are something to write symphonies about, don't let that stop you from exploring their other dishes as well. Trust, everything is super fresh and so, so awesome.
8. Miss Villeray
Of course, no list about Villeray is complete without the iconic Miss Villeray. Doubling as a pretty awesome dive bar, this is pretty much one of the best places to have some fun with friends in the neighbourhood. What some people might not be aware of, though, is that Miss Villeray serves up some seriously on point grub. Their menu boasts delicious dishes, like BBQ chicken wings and grilled chorizo - but the real star of the show is their pizza: crisp, packed with toppings, and oh-so delicious. Get there for the fun, stay for the food.
9. Sissi & Paul
Sissi & Paul is located more towards the St. Michel side of Villeray, but trust me when I say it's more than worth the trek. This Haitian eatery serves up some seriously legit, fresh and delicious dishes; and it manages to hit the golden trifecta (super fair prices, super delicious food, and a friendly, awesome ambiance). If you're craving Haitian food in Villeray, this should absolutely be your first stop. Trust me on this one, friends.
10. Huis Clos
Okay, Huis Clos is awesome. First of all, their oysters? Yeah. Among the freshest I've ever tasted, and served up perfectly with their super delicious sauce. Although their oysters are a thing of beauty, the rest of the menu is similarly amazing: think delicious, melt-in-your-mouth vegetarian lasagne, tender rhum barbecue ribs, and perfectly cooked crabcakes. Add that in with a super fun and trendy ambiance, and some really awesome cocktails, and you're straight up winning.
