Don't go outside today if you can, not because it's mothertruckin' cold (though that's reason enough) but because an official "Blowing Snow Warning" has been issued for the Montreal area by Environment Canada. So not only will the winds nip your nose hardcore, you'll be blasted by snow being flung into your face.
Officially, Blowing Snow Warnings are "issued when winds are expected to create blowing snow giving poor visibility to 800 metres or less for at least 3 hours." These strong winds will be "blowing snow that will strongly reduce visibilities until late in the day." Oh February, you're already off to a good start.
Released by Environment Canada at around 5am this morning, the Blowing Snow Warning is also in effect for the Châteauguay-La Prairie, Laval, and Longueuil-Varennes areas, and even Quebec City. A low pressure system moving up from the Great Lakes to the Gulf of St Lawrence is to blame, check out a map of the affected areas below.
