Breaking: Major Gas Leak In West Side Of Montreal Causes Thousands To Lose Power

The SPVM broke the news over Twitter earlier this morning, announcing that a pipe burst causing a major gas leak between Fleet and The Avenue and Kildare closed between Sir Walter Scott and Kellert Ave in the Montreal West borough of the city.

Police are urging commuters and drivers to avoid the area around Cavendish mall to free up the roads for emergency personnel. You've been warned: there will be traffic.

Also, apartment and office buildings have been evacuated as there is concern that the gas can leak into buildings.

The STM also announced five bus lines will be re-routed including he 104, 138, 161, 162 and 262.

Lastly, Hydro-Quebec cut power to about 9,000 homes and commercial businesses in the area.

Hydro Quebec says the power will not be back anytime before 3 p.m. today. 

Considering that the Concordia campus is in that area as well, you may want to inform anyone you know who works, studies, or lives in the neighborhood.
