Breaking News: Canada To Expel Russian Spies In Solidarity With The U.K.

Russian diplomats are being expelled from Canada in light of the breaking news coming out around the world surrounding Russian Intelligence officers.

Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland announced today that 4 members of Russia's diplomatic staff working in Canada at the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Canada, or at the Consulate General of the Russian Federation(in Montreal!) are being removed from Canada.

The 4 people have been confirmed as intelligence officers or individuals using their diplomatic status to undermine Canada's security and/or interfere with our democracy.

What are nerve agents?

Nerve agents are highly toxic chemicals that prevent the nervous system from working properly and can be fatal.

Nerve agents take different forms - including powder and gas - but they tend to be a liquid, which can seep through the skin.

 What are Novichok agents?

Meaning "newcomer" in Russian, Novichok applies to advanced nerve agents developed by the Soviet Union in the 1970s and 1980s.

Variants of the nerve agent Novichok are reported to be up to eight times more effective than VX nerve gas - which was used to assassinate Kim Jong-nam in February 2017.

While still being investigated, reports suggest that Skripal may have been exposed to the nerve agent through the air vents of his car.
