Not too far from us here in Montreal in Brockville, ON, they Canada's first ever railway tunnel that has been turned into a park and tourist attraction.

In 1835, the city of Brockville started thinking about railroads instead of canals along the St. Lawrence River. The Brockville/Ottawa Railroad was incorporated in 1853.

The tracks were removed in 1976 and in 1983 the tunnel and waterfront property were acquired from the Canadian Pacific Railway.

Today, the Railway site is a historical Canadian landmark, and remains open to the public to walk-through, being the only one of it's kind in the county.

When you walk down the tunnel, they have a rainbow light show projected all around you, making it feel like you're adventuring down through a rabbit whole, ala Alice and Wonderland!

Take a look at this video:

The Brockville Railway Tunnel stays open to public in the warmer seasons of the year from 9 AM- 9 PM, and they just re-opened for the season a few days ago.

Brockville, ON, is about a 2-hour drive from Montreal, making it one of more attainable road trips you can take to indulge in a chunk of Canadian history.

The tunnel is located in the downtown core of Brockville, very close to waterfront.
