Canada Has An Enchanted Underground Railway Tunnel You Can Explore

Curious Canadians can actually walk through Canada's oldest railway tunnel, which was built in 1860 and is now a Canadian historical landmark.

Canada's First Railway Tunnel has been totally restored and has received countless accolades since the work was completed in 2017.

Take a look at the awesome video below that shows the amazing light show that is a part of the tunnel experience.

Brockville is one of Canada's oldest municipalities and proud home to the oldest railway tunnel in the country. The Grand Truck Railway connected Brockville to Montreal as far back as 1855 and the tunnel, which began construction in 1854, reached completion in 1860.

The tunnel is open 7 days a week from 9 AM to 9 PM, so any day is a good day to take in this incredible photo and video op. Do check the site if you think the weather might be too inclement.

You can even bring your fuzzy four-legged friends along for the photo op - as long as they're on a leash, under your control, and you've got all the goods necessary to pick up after them.

As you walk through the tunnel there are 13 "information panels" that explain the "history, construction, and geology" of the tunnel and it's long and storied past.

The Railway Tunnel Park is even open on holidays and runs entirely on donations of visitors to the park.

Brockville is hoping to restore the area to create the new Railway Tunnel Park that would include the tunnel and the nearby north gorge area.

The hope is that the park will connect to the larger Brock Trailer recreational pathway which is 7km long and passes by Brockville's riverfront, Buell's Creek and through the Mac Johnson Wildlife Area.
