Canada Ranked #2 In The World For Most Cocaine Use

I'm as surprised as you are.
Canada Ranked #2 In The World For Most Cocaine Use

When you picture Canada, you might think of a lot of different things: beautiful rivers and mountains, friendly people, beautiful actors (we're looking at you, Ryan Gosling). What might not come to mind right away is drug usage.

A new study confirms that maybe it should. The Global Drug Survey (GDS) polled over 120,000 people in 35 countries to look at drug use across the globe. They admit that, though results are not necessarily a reflection of the general population's drug habits, they can still be a good benchmark indicator.

The GDS survey ranks Canada second among the countries studied.

In this second place spot, Canada tied with Brazil, Italy, Portugal, Denmark and England. Canadians use cocaine, on average, ten days out of the year. This is higher than the global average of six days a year.

The number one user of cocaine? Scotland, apparently.

According to the survey, one of the reasons Canada ranks so high is that Canada has some of the cheapest cocaine in the world. The average cost per gram in Canada is around $85, while the global average is around $120.

The lower price makes the drug more accessible and harder to quit.

One of the most entertaining tidbits in the survey? An overwhelming number of Canadians trust their dealer implicitly. Clearly, Our Canadian niceness even extends to our drug dealers.

According to the Global Drug Survey, a little under 70 percent of respondents said that they “totally” trusted that their dealer wouldn’t be violent or abusive.

Canada's liberal attitude toward drug use is also perhaps worth mentioning. The country, of course, legalized recreational cannabis in October of 2018. Since then, marijuana has become increasingly available across Canada.
