Canada Is Going To Make Cosmetic Animal Testing Illegal
A couple of months agowe reported that Bill S-214, called the Cruelty-Free Cosmetics Act, was passed in the Senate. Well, the Bill has now just been introduced to the House of Commons, making Canada one step closer to the end fo all sales and manufacturing of cosmetics that have been tested on animals.
The Body Shop Canada and Cruelty Free International have spent the last year working together with Cosmetics Alliance Canada, Canadian Conservative MP Marilyn Gladu and the Minister of Health's Office for the last year on the legislation that is now on the way to becoming Canadian law.

The European Union already functions with similar legislation and makeup "one of the largest cosmetics markets" in the world, according to The Body Shop Canada.
The Body Shop Canada launched their campaign here in 2017 and managed to collect over 700,000 signatures from Canadians across the country. According to the press release, this is the largest petition to be brought to parliament in 70 years.

While the bill apparently still needs some work in terms of phrasing, those working on the bill are hopeful that the bill will pass through the House of Commons with little push-back.
It is likely that with such high numbers of support from Canadians, members of parliament will find it hard to vote against such a widely-supported movement.

The bill would not only put an end to cosmetic testing in Canada, but it would also end the manufacturing and sales of any products that were involved in animal testing.
The Body Shop's global campaign to end animal testing worldwide currently has over 8 million signatures, according to their Forever Against Animal Testing page.
