So what does this mean for winter?

As you probably remember, last winter seemed to go on forever. And it was a lot colder and snowier than normal. But this year however, we might just get a little lucky.

According to experts there is a 70% chance that El Niño will be making a comeback this year. The climate pattern is expected to bring warmer than normal temperatures throughout most of Canada.

El Niño is basically an abnormal weather pattern. The sun warms the water near the equator, which creates more clouds and rain. During El Niño, the winds that normally blow that warm water West starts pushing it towards the East, which sets off atmospheric changes that can affect weather patterns around the planet.

But just because it's going to be hot doesn't mean there won't be any snow. According the Old Farmer’s Almanac, most regions in Canada are expecting above-normal temperatures on average, with above-normal precipitation and snowfall. So there will most definitely be some snow, but it probably won't be piling up and paralyzing parts of the country like it did last year.
