Canada's Top 10 Places Where You're Most Likely To Get Murdered
2018 in Canada was a record-breaking year for homicides.
Just think back to all of the horrific events that took place in Toronto and you'll start to remember that the last year was pretty rough. But you're probably wondering where it was the absolute worst? With all of the cities across the country, which ones were you most likely to get murdered in?
Well, thanks to MACLEAN'S "Most Dangerous Places 2018" list for Canada, we can now see what cities you really want to avoid in the new year. These 10 places ranked as most dangerous for homicides, although you can also check other statistics on different crimes.
So, now that we're in 2019, let's take a peek at the worst places to be in Canada during 2018 if you didn't want to be murdered:
1. Thompson, Manitoba
Number of homicides: 3
2. Woodstock, Ontario
Number of homicides: 8
3. Courtenay, British Columbia
Number of homicides: 3
4. Port Alberni, British Columbia
Number of homicides: 2
5. Morinville, Alberta
Number of homicides: 1
7. Dawson Creek, British Columbia
Number of homicides: 1
8. Thunder Bay, Ontario
Number of homicides: 8
9. North Cowichan, British Columbia
Number of homicides: 2
10. Brooks, Alberta
Number of homicides: 1
The results are based off of the population of each city as well as the Crime Severity Index (CSI) which measures the Canadian average against a city with a high crime rate.
So even though #2 on the list (Woodstock, ON) comes in with more homicides than #1 (Thompson, MB) what also comes into question is the population, other crimes and offences, and their overall CSI.
