Canadian Man David Assman Humiliates Government With Decal After Officials Refused To Let Him Put His Last Name On A Vanity Plate

Saskatoon man David Assman has been causing a stir on the Internet in the last few weeks. Mr. Assman put in a request for a vanity license plate that would read "Assman" (pronounced 'Ossman'), but this request was denied by the government of Saskatchewan for being "offensive."

But the railroad worker found a creative way to work around this restriction: a huge decal.

TL;DR Canadian man David Assman was not going to let the government tell him what to do, and got around a license plate request refusal in the most creative way he could think of.

Mr. Assman had this to say about the recent press, and why he insisted on going forward with the license plate request: "I know there are a few people out there that are wondering why I’m making such a big deal about getting denied my last name as my license plate [...]  just because you don’t like or feel something is inappropriate, you don’t have to make a big deal about it! If it isn’t illegal or going to harm someone mind your own business and carry on with your own life!"

He appealed the decision, an appeal which was rejected in a matter of hours.

Assman had anticipated this appeal, and ordered a very special decal for his truck in the meantime. The decal is a blown-up version of the Saskatchewan license plate, which reads "ASSMAN," and features Saskatchewan's motto. Go Assman!

Mr. Assman is not the first man to make the headlines with this last name. A different Saskatchewan resident, Dick Assman, was well-known in Regina in the 1990s, and his fame was so great that David Letterman invited him on the show as a guest.
