If you've ever travelled anywhere by plane, there could be quite a few things on your mind when you're thousands of feet in the air. You might be focused on the turbulence or the people you're seated next to. Maybe you're less concerned and more focused on the airplane food or movies you can watch. Needless to say, flights aren't the most enjoyable thing for most of us, but it isn't the worst either.
Well, that's until something totally unexpected, or even dangerous, happens to you. If you're one of the rare few that have encountered this issue while flying, then you might understand. Although, nothing can really top what this one Canadian woman went through when she was stung by a scorpion during an Air Transat flight last month.

Yes, it's basically one of those really odd situations that seems impossible to happen. Unfortunately for the University of Alberta student, the events were very real.
The woman was on an Air Transat flight from Toronto to Calgary on Feb. 26, 2019 when she first began to feel a fluttering motion on her lower back just one hour before landing. At this time, the woman figured it was just the air conditioning blowing down her back.
That's when she realized it definitely was not the air conditioning. As the lights in the plane turned off and prepared for landing, she felt the unbelievable pain shooting through her lower back. That's when it became clear that something bit her.

The woman quickly checked behind her once the planes lights turned on, and there it was -- a scorpion hiding within the fold of the back of the chair.
After overcoming the shock of the entire situation, the question on all of our minds also baffled the woman who fell victim to the scorpion bite: how did this even get on a Canadian flight?
Unfortunately, we have no idea. Air Transat has not released any information on where the scorpion came from, but it is possible it could have been in transport previously and escaped its enclosure.
As for the woman, when she tried to alert flight attendants of what bit her, they first tried to assure her it was only a gum wrapper lying on her seat. When she forced them to check again, it was impossible not to spot the scorpion.
Luckily, the woman has made a full recovery after being escorted by paramedics off the plane. When asked by CBC how she feels about travelling again, her response is that she'll be taking a bit of a hiatus from flying for the next little while.
Needless to say, this is probably one of the craziest flight stories we've ever heard.
